Subject: Common Loon

While doing a little southern Wood County birding this morning (6/16/02), Chris Gajewicz and I stopped by the North Baltimore quarry. You can imagine our surprise when we heard what we thought was a loon call. We rushed to the other (deeper) end of the quarry and sure enough, there was a loon. We studied the bird for a long time and decided it was just a common loon, a first summer bird.
