Subject: Ottawa NWR

On Sunday afternoon at Ottawa there were several dozen Short-billed Dowitchers, along with Solitary, Least, and Spotted Sandpipers. Also present were a few Snowy Egrets, Common and Forster's Terns, and a few species of ducks.

Shorebirding is new to me, so I'm sure I missed something. The shorebirds I viewed were less than 100 feet away. They were located in a long, narrow pool of water along one of the dikes in the middle of the refuge. There were more elswhere, but a scope was needed.

The grassland restoration project at Krause Rd and SR-2 contained several Savannah and Grasshopper Sparrows along with Eastern Meadowlarks.
