Subject: The Marshes of Sandusky Bay Field Trip

Only two TNA memebers joined leaders Jeff and Becky Cullen for the Marshes of Sandusky Bay field trip on Saturday, April 6th. The small number of participants allowed for a more intense trip with extra time being spent at several locations and a more in-depth exploration of new areas. Jeff and I would like to thank Kathy and Mike for joining us on the field trip. We had a great time and hope you did too.

Although Kahty and Mike were already acquainted with Sheldon's Marsh and Pipe Creek Wildlife Area, we were able to introduce them to several new birding areas including the Chausee, Medusa Marsh, the Old Bay Bridge and Pickeral Creek Wildlife Area.

In all, 66 species were seen or heard. Ducks were the order of the day with 18 or 19 (was that or wasn't that a greater scaup we were looking at?) of the expected 20 species of ducks being found. Highlight of the day was seeing two early Forster's terns flying over the bay at Pickeral Creek.

Besides great birding spots, we were also able to introduce Kathy and Mike to the best ice cream place in Northwest Ohio, Toft's Dairy in Sandusky.
