Subject: Short-eared Owl

We received a call today from Woodlane School in BG from a teacher who hit an owl with her SUV on her way in from work. When she got to work, the dead owl was wedged in the luggage rack. They called me at the nature center where I work and asked us if we wanted it. To my surprise, it was a Short-eared Owl. She said she hit it on Rte. 281 between Rte. 18 and the Wood/Henry County line. (DeLorme, page 36, B-1). I wasn't expecting Short-eared. It might be worth a trip over that way at dusk or dawn to see if others are in that area. Any BG birders interested?
