While being a top academic at an Ivy League institution is a priority, the problem with many of these presidents is their inability to connect with students, staff, and alumni. Martha Pollack at Cornell who also resigned from the university this spring, while very bright academically, was rarely seen on campus and just did not have the "people skills" to lead a major university. I think to be a great leader of any university the president needs to get out from behind their lap top and remain engaged with the students, faculty, and alumni. Frank Rhodes at Cornell displayed those qualities.
