NY Knickerbockers head and assistant coach, Tom Thibodeau and Eric Bunson respectively, learned their basketball on the (not so hardscrabble) courts of Salem MA. Thibodeau played for Salem State, coached there, became assistant at Harvard. Whilst with the Crimson, coach T apparently had less interest in recruiting Bunson père than in playing against him in the summer league. Bunson would go on to play at Temple before (A)raising a son who is the current floor general of the Knickerbockers and (B) following Thibodeau thru the pro coaching ranks.

Probably haven't heard them referenced as "Knickerbockers" since 1973 - recall a late spring morning of that year when I camped outside the Madison Square Garden ticket office to purchase Eastern Conference Finals playoff tickets; played against a Celtics team that won 68 regular season games. Amazingly enough, the Knickerbockers won that series in seven games; getting a huge contribution from a J.Brunson-type player of that day, Harlemite, Dean "The Dream" Meminger. And maybe they'll do it again!

For the Celtics, this maybe it for the post-season.
