Wow!!! Cornell always the underdog finally wins the big one in nearly 50 years. What a great victory for Cornell vs. a very tough Maryland team. Many thanks to the seniors who stuck around given COVID and the cancelled seasons back in 2020 and 2021. So much history with Cornell lacrosse. Congrats to this great team and thank you for your hard work over the years. What an achievement!

Me too: outstanding win and epic season for the Big Red. They were consistently 1-2 goals better than MD yesterday, which has a dominant defense and was the clear #2. Interesting that Cornell’s closest game in the tourney was against unseeded Richmond! Great way for CJ Kirst to go out after his 0-fer vs. Syracuse in the semis, Cornell has had some amazing players over the years but he might be the best of the lot.

Kirst was 0-fer against Penn State. but I agree what a game he played as his last college season scoring 6 goals and 82 for the season. He wore the Maryland defenders down in the 2nd half.

Unverified info, but I heard a rumor Kirst had a broken bone in his hand or wrist for a few weeks. If so, imagine if he had not lost full function.

You were correct it was a hand injury, that must have bothered him in the Penn State game. He was the overall #1 draft pick in the Premier League by the Philadelphia Waterdogs. Adding CJ Kirst with the first overall pick is massive, but he’s starting the season on the physically unable to perform list with a hand injury.

The Philadelphia Waterdogs are coached by none other than former Princeton and Denver head coach Bill Tierney.
