Subject: How Old is This Message Board?

Can anybody with a better memory refresh my recollection of old this Ivy League Message Board is?

When did this thing get up and running?

In a world where MySpace launches the phenomenon of social media, but has not existed for many years, this board qualifies as an institution. I hope that we can keep it going as other Ivy message boards come and go.

And thanks again to the moderator who has put in all these years of keeping the board going and on point. I think it's a terrific blend of pure sports talk combined with just the right amount of banter involving Ivy education and world events.

At its best, this board is a community of posters who share at least one topic of mutual interest as well as the desire to converse with other articulate people. It's a treasure.

The predecessor board to this one began pre-9/11/01.

I don’t know exactly when this Board began, but I recall starting my participation in the post 9/11 era, when football posters were confidently predicting that our League was condemned to an era in which a tri-monopoly of Harvard-Penn-Brown would dominate forever more. The alleged thinking behind this assertion was “Harvard is Harvard, Penn has Wharton, and Brown has a flexible curriculum.” At that point, I guess the rest of the League should have thrown in the towel!

Agree that the primary value is the content and contributors.

Other valuable features:
-- not limited to a single sport
-- men and women's athletics

BUT:
-- the technology platform is old and decrepit (like most of us)
-- virtually no promotion to encourage greater participation and viewership

Ivy sports started out as an email message group circua mid-1990s.

Then the rivals Boards took over in the late 1990s.

Then Hogboy started a previous version of Voy. He refused to moderate, and too many loons spoiled the fun for everyone.

So this Board came into existence in the early 2000s.

yes the previous board disintegrated into some kind of dystopian nightmare! For me - i have no idea when this current thing came up but I do remember an article in the Spectator about us - mentioned my moniker. As for the posters - whatever happened to the thorn in Columbia side - Foehi? Sometimes it amazes me the amount of scorn (from previously mentioned poster) and general nasty comments but i guess that is the wonderful internet for ya! My son mentioned once he was in a pizza joint in Hoboken and two guys got into an argument about Bergen Catholic and Bosco football -- LOL - same deal here.

... he was having health issues.

I surmise that our not having heard from him in a while is a very bad sign...

Gentlemen; to my recollection, the board was in existence in 2002 where I was introduced to it by Rix a.k.a. Paul Lopata now departed.

I miss Rick’s. I remember he wrote that he fell while walking into the 2016 Yale-Harvard game and missed the game. A loyal Yale fan till the end.

Didn't realize Ricks was Paul Lopata an outstanding TE and member of Yale's glorious 1956 Championship team.

Don't remember when this Board started but delighted that we have it.

I have reason to believe that the Ricks who posted in in the latter part of the 2010's was not the same Ricks (a.k.a., Lopata) who apparently posted in the early years of this site.

I personally know the Ricks who missed The Game in 2016, and I've never met Mr. Lopata.

FWIW, I can confirm that both "Ricks" are no longer with us, sadly.

I can’t recall when I drifted over to this sight. But, it was a vast improvement over any predecessor. The posts are, for the most part, civil, intelligent and biased, as most of us are fans. The needling has often been humorous and informative. I would love to meet many of you to see the person behind his/her posts.

Salud,
