BGA reports this morning that Harvard took its out of conference schedule a notch higher, scheduling home and aways with UC Davis and Richmond. Wofford will be visiting the Crimson. And.... the Crimson will play at Montana State.

The Tim Murphy era is definitely over. :)

Wow. 180 degree turn.

Good for Harvard. This is what any Ivy with aspirations of playing in the FCS Playoffs must do. In a large field such as the FCS Playoffs, seeding makes a huge difference. And if you want a seed that gives you a good chance to win, you need a respectable OOC schedule.

You don't need three strong OOC opponents each year. One or two is plenty. You just need to play your marquee opponent strong. Then when you go 7-0 or 6-1 in the conference, the FCS committee can make a reasoned judgment whether your record is due to your being good or the conference being weak.

Harvard playing a strong OOC schedule is like Nixon going to China. This is what we need to do.

BGA also says that McCorkle is presently content to stick with Dartmouth's current UNH/Competitive Patriot/Cupcake slot of OOC games.

It's hard to argue too much with him. But we will see if he changes his mind in a few years...

No rush, but the change is inevitable. It will happen no later than Dartmouth winning the Ivy League, getting seeded low and then getting shellacked by one of the top four or five seeds.

McCorkle will come around. The teams which think that they can win the Ivies now will start upgrading their schedules right away. The programs who are still trying to get competitive within the conference have bigger issues to address first.

The FCS playoffs are structured so that the top seeds get byes. So we don't meet the big boys until round two (as Yale did).

I think that the more likely scenario that causes an upgrade in schedule would be if a co-champion or 5-1 second place team gets passed over for an at-large spot. Granted, Harvard's 2025 OOC was not impressive. But they got their asses handed to them in the playoffs, so perhaps the FCS powers that be are not charitable to us next time...

Nixon was light for a linebacker but was admired for his moxie apparently
