Freaking MIT had a pitcher drafted. And I did not know this, but MIT apparently has had several players drafted in recent years.

Dartmouth baseball really needs to turn it up a notch.

I hope that the Miami, LSU and Texas boosters with their NIL dollars are not intimidated from navigating the traffic around Memorial Drive and Mass Ave in Cambridge. They need to start waving their booster money in front of the Beaver pitchers.

In my day, "MIT Athletics" was an oxymoron. But in the past generation or so, they've become pretty decent. They're actually good in several sports.

That said, the Ivy should be winning the recruiting battles with MIT for athletes...

An uncharacteristic understatement from GG.

In the just concluded Division III Learfield Cup, MIT was 6th nationally for the year, ahead of such traditional powers as Amherst, NYU, Chicago and Williams. The next NEWMAC team was Babson at #50.

The Learfield Cup gives points for qualifying/advancing/winning NCAA championship events. Which sounds great. But when you consider that some schools have many more teams than others - and get the same "points" for winning fencing, women's rowing and skiing championships (which few schools compete for) as they do for basketball, baseball, softball and track (which many schools compete for), then you see the joke that the rankings really are. Furthermore, schools are capped at the number of qualifying teams that can score points.

Mrs. Go Green got her graduate degree from MIT.

Some time ago, I asked if she had any desire to explore MIT as an option for our daughters.

Mrs. Go Green's response was clear and adamant-- "Oh, HELL no!"

Then again, I do think that today's MIT may be different from that of a generation of two ago...

All this talk about money made me wonder how the Harvard and MIT guys ended up with their teams.

The Harvard pitcher signed with the Mets for $150,000.

I can't tell if the MIT guy signed with the Dodgers yet. But he has until the 28th to do so.

The MIT guy signed for $447K.

Looks like he held out a bit and the Dodgers gave him what he wanted.

I was impressed that Mason Estrada, the MIT pitcher and aerospace engineering student, held out to sign $100K for his arm and $347K for his contributions to the Dodgers data analytics.

I was equally impressed that Mason helped the Dodgers meet the very rigorous MLB Academic Index (AI) team score, which means that their team AI average must remain within one standard deviation of the average AI for the entire MLB. This MLB average corresponds roughly to a 1.2 GPA and an 850 SAT.

To ensure there is no cheating, the language SAT test scores for MLB players will be administered by Ippei Mizuhara, who previously served as Shohei Ohtani Japanese-language interpreter.
