Dartmouth answers immediately. The Big Green rushing attack is tearing up the Lions defense.

…according to online audio, the Columbia fans are “streaming toward the exits” w/ most of Q4 remaining. Hard to win Ivy titles w/o champion-caliber fans…

I am about to have a heart attack listening to the live audio. Giving up a late TD because of two consecutive roughing the passer penalties? Then turning it over on downs?? Unless they were kicking into a gale I don’t understand that call. Unreal Now a face mask to put Columbia on the 7?

Green covers up the onside kick with 30 seconds to go, and survives! Moving to 6-0

Dartmouth wins today with rushing: total 271 yards against an excellent defense, averaging just under 7 per carry. Jones with banner day

Outstanding rushing attack today but the defensive penalties were ridiculous. I’m sure Coach Dobes will clean things up before Harvard comes to Hanover.

For a few moments I thought that we would be doing what Dartmouth had done to Yale. But Dartmouth recovered the insides kick and that was the game. Congrats to Dartmouth. We were outplayed and outcoached. A costly loss since our QB went down. I like the fact that our guys didn’t quit but Dartmouth earned the win.

Would have been nice to put the game away and not let Columbia have a fighting chance to come back, but we got it done and will take it.

But it's satisfying given some of the stuff the Columbia guys were saying on Jake's Blog. Jake himself has always respected Dartmouth and knows that the Ivy title usually goes though Hanover. But...

Saying that it's anyone's title because Harvard, Yale, and Princeton all lost their league openers? Please.

Dissing Dartmouth's defense? Come on...

Proclaiming that Columbia had the best kicker in the league? HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I certainly hope that Columbia wins a lot of games from here on. But if they want to win a championship, they need to learn how to beat the champs. And the first step in doing that is to *respect* the champs. Their 1861 Ivy championship team understood this.

Also hope that their QB is ok. If not, they can look elsewhere (oh, say Dartmouth) on how to win games with backup quarterbacks.

Something got under your skin. You clearly fielded the better team on this Saturday, and maybe the rest of the season. Gracious in victory might behoove you.

No, it wasn't me.

"The irrational exuberance-based statements on this thread and other recent ones regarding this game is stunning."

Honestly, I wish Columbia the best. But some of your supporters' comments regarding Dartmouth.... sheesh!

i don't read jakes blog so i can not speak to the unutterable disrepect given to Dartmouth on that site. What do you expect to have people post on their own blog site? I do see some "irrational exuberance" on this Geaux Green fella - and suggest some anger management course for him. In fact if i was to throw brickbats I'd say all those green penalties at near end of the game - unsportsmanlike play, face mask etc. and smacks of mean green desperation as they felt the game possibly slipping away.

so there's my disrespect for your team Mr. GG - amplified by your childish BS you just posted - have a good day !

The owner of the Columbia blog was most likely face-palming and shaking his head when he read about the multiple predictions of a 41-10 Columbia victory yesterday on his blog.

Not sure many look to that blog for high-level football insights. Apologies to Dartmouth players and staff if the excited comments of septuagenarian Lion fans were upsetting. Heaven forbid any Ivy League team should get disrespected in any form on any forum. Especially the poor Green who have endured several non-winning campaigns over the last several decades

Do you know how much time it takes to monitor the entire internet 24/7 for Dartmouth disrespect? Not to mention on top of that having to scour for all things Princeton?

Ok, I guess maybe that question answers itself.

But Dartmouth basketball fans (old and young) would not be predicting a 30-point win over Princeton on the basketball board even if we do get off to a nice start.

And if we did, I have no doubt that the Princeton guys would throw it back into our faces when we couldn't back it up.

There is a lot of stuff and nonsense on Jake's blog these days, especially since the advent of the "anonymous" poster.
I don't take a lot of those posts seriously, and certainly did not take any of those outrageous predicted scores so. I would definitely put them in the category so well captured by the late great Alan Greenspan...

It's arguable how "great" Alan Greenspan was as a Fed chairman, but I hope we can all agree that he is not "late."

Chairman Greenspan is alive and kicking.

Fun fact: He was married twice and both women had the maiden name of "Mitchell," including his current wife, NBC journalist and Penn alumna Andrea Mitchell.

I mean, many of us have a "type" when it comes to women, but usually it's not her maiden name.

Dartmouth earned this tie-breaker win, straight up. Their ground game was impressive from start to finish. Until this game, our Giorgi-Terry run game had been, too. But D’s run defense today was solid.

Our losing our starting QB, Chase Goodwin, to injury was a game changer, and that’s not intended to take anything away from Cole Freeman, who did a good job today against the best opponent we’ve faced this year.

Very strange factors today: (1) Our previously accomplished receiver corps dropping many catchable balls they were right on the money from Goodwin and Freeman. (2) D’s unbelievable string of costly penalties (with, what’s even more unbelievable, repeat offenders) that let us back into a game that D could have put away.

Congrats to D on a game very well played.

We knew going into the season that our OL was likely to be very, very good and they have pretty much delivered every week. Probably the best run game in the league.

Next week will be interesting because Yale probably has the best passing game in the league and yesterday when you looked at the replays, there were few if any places to throw the ball against Columbia's secondary. And the OL was giving Saunier time to survey the field.

Conversely, we have Harvard coming to town, and it's no secret that they have given us fits over the years. Harvard absolutely crushed Princeton yesterday.

Literally a playoff game every week all across the league.

If Dartmouth doesn't clean up on penalties, we will not beat Harvard.

Coaches Teevens and Lyons made us run windsprints for every penalty we committed the previous game (regardless of whether we had won or lost).

There were times when we were utterly exhausted at the end of practice after running the requisite sprints.

Can only imagine what Coach McCorkle is going to make the guys do at practice this week...

Punishment after a single penalty makes sense, of course. But REPEAT penalties by the SAME PLAYER (or a relative)?! And then, galactically worse, REPEAT penalties by the SAME PLAYER in the SAME QUARTER?!? And then, mind-blowingly worse, REPEAT penalties by the SAME PLAYER in the SAME QUARTER -AND- IN THE SAME DRIVE?!? Firing squad, no?

(Disclosure. I can’t remember if this last one actually happened, and I haven’t re-watched the game, but my recollection is that it might’ve happened. And even if it didn’t, the entire penalty situation probably warrants a squad anyway.)

Some years back, they argued that Dalyn Williams should be disqualified from the Bushnell Cup because he got two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against the Lions.

Not sure I understand the comment about Columbia fans. To be clear, I wasn’t criticizing Dartmouth at all. I was only noting, partly in jest, that the cluster of penalties was remarkable, and that a D coach might have reason to lower the boom on players who repeatedly rack up rapid-fire penalties like that and let D’s opponent back into a game that D could have put away.

Dartmouth OL is very good and they wore our depleted DL out. The game was frustrating as we controlled the first 20 minutes or so with nothing to show for it. D's first three possessions were all punts, but we killed two good drives with holding penalties, missed a FG. The interception that went thru 13s hands seemed to change the momentum and D was clearly superior after that. Our DL and LBs seemed to wear down. The fact we rush three on almost all passing downs suggests coaches don't have much faith in our pass rush.

That said, in Q3 I turn to my friend and say D has played errorless FB. No turnovers, one 5-yd penalty. And then they basically came apart with several obvious personal fouls. I wonder what happened - D was dominating and the penalties basically let Lions back in the game.
