Subject: State of the League

Ivy Inquisitor (Week 5 picks)

For a couple of years now I’ve been posting “State of the League” segments every week during fall. Up to this point this is the easiest. My picks were 5-1 and 1-0 for Ivy Sprint. Bring this season’s total to 14-12 on the year and Ivy CSFL: 4-2
If Columbia can continue their success then Jon Poppe is deserving of serious consideration for national coach of the year. Yale has their second loss. Two losses in this league basically eliminates a team for the title race. I’ve underestimated Yale too many times. I’m not writing then off yet. Another loss and I probably will.

Yesterday’s games the teams that were expected to win did so. I hope the quality and unpredictability of the Ivy will continue to the extent of the last two years.

Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Harvard and Princeton: nothing’s changed refer to last week’s post.

Brown’s defense gave up two 4th quarter touchdowns which isn’t too surprising, but their great offensive was scoreless in the 4th.

Yale and Dartmouth-Wow! This was Ivy Madness. Not only for the final quarter but throughout the entire game. It looked like on nearly every play the Big Green defense was jail breaking into the backfield. The Bulldogs run game was insufficient. I was extremely impressed by Yale QB Grant Jordan despite all the pressure around him he kept connecting on the deep balls. He passed for 415 yards and two total touchdowns. Dartmouth botched two punt snaps. Resulting in a safety. The Big Green Bungled another one on a short FG. Then as we already know the spark began to fly in the 4th quarter. This game will live on in Dartmouth lore just like in 2019 when Derek Kyler final Hail Mary that gave them a 9-6 win over Harvard.

Dartmouth Back up QB Grayson Saunier 276 yards and 3 touchdowns looked like Derek Kyler. He 84 yards rushing and two additional touchdowns made him look like Nick Howard. This is only one game but he looks like the total package. Wonder if Jackson Proctor is feeling uneasy? Dartmouth is pulling way from the pack just like Harvard did at this time last year. On the other hand, Harvard’s sizable lead among the rest ended up in a tri-championship.

Yale 31 Lehigh 27
Harvard 38 HC 24
Bucknell 35 Cornell 24
Columbia 28 Penn 21
Brown 34 Princeton 28

Ivy Sprint
STAC 38 Cornell 7
Penn 56 Molloy 0

was one of the most underrated QBs in Dartmouth and league history, totally Mr cool. If Howard hadn't been there at the same time I think Derek could have been on the all-time list. Nick was a warrior a FB disguised a QB who put his body on the line every game I can't imagine how sore he must have been day after. Kyler was a slick runner much like "Sauce" is. I am wondering what Proctor's injury is but if He can't go Sauce gets the start

Kyler shared time with Jared Gerbino too.

Never complained. Only wanted to win.

And he did win.

A lot.

Having seen Kyler every game of his career, I must say he was as good or better than anyone else in the league.

Harvard has shown a propensity for resting key players OOC. Don't expect McLaughlin to play, but the Crimson have more than enough RB's. Maybe Deprima sees a little more time over Craig as well. Deprima did beat a strong Holy Cross team on the road last year and should get more reps running the offense generally, not just in special situations. You never know when/if he'll be needed during the Ivy Season. Incredible how many capable WR's/TE's the Crimson have. Hope not to rue the disaster at Brown.

This Holy Cross squad seems a step below. Wins only against Bryant (2-4), Colgate (1-5) and Fordham (0-7). Close loss to Yale.

When you exit the Schuylkill on the South Street, make right hand turn if coming from the north or left if coming from South. You see the stadium on right, go to 1st stop light make left and parking garages there.

Very convenient. There are others in the area because of the hospital.

Enjoy- ticket booth on 33rd street.
