Ivy Inquisitor (Game six picks)

Last week my picks went 4-2 and the sprint picks were 1-1. Brining the season total to 18-14 and Ivy Sprint 5-3.

Penn and Cornell’s Sprint teams have already experienced their best season since 2021. Cornell’s win over STAC gave them their second win. More than the previous two seasons. Penn has clinched their first winning season since 2021.

Princeton’s defense didn’t look like their physical self. However, against Brown they quickly swarmed to the ball carrier like yellow jackets. RB Clark filled in nicely for the injured Volker. Marco Scarono lead the way with 14 tackles, followed up by 10 from jack DelGarbino. Princeton blow a 19 point lead but were saved by Brown’s sloppy play.

Brown should’ve beat Princeton. They were down 0-19 but stormed back. This is a testament to their fast break “Northwest” style of fast paced play. It was their six tounovers (3 int, 2 fumbles and failed 4th down) along with a critical 4th down defensive penalty that costed the the game. This game was crucial for them to take the next step. I fear they might be plateauing now.

Yale is doing what’s expected:Start the season slow and finish it strong. Cornerback Joshua Tarver’s two interceptions lead the victory.

Cornell is so inconsistent win or lose it feels expected. The always dynamic Jameson Wang passed for 274 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 Interceptions. The only thing that seemed different was he wasn’t the team’s leading rusher. Ean Pope lead with 111 yards. That’s an impressive feat given that 4 RB’s were used not counting QB Wang. Last week Jameson Wang became the only Cornell player to pass for 40 Touchdowns and run for 20 more. There is still half of the season left so I look forward to seeing how much further he’ll add to that record.

Dartmouth wisely stuck to their successful method of tough defense, run heavy rushing. Kicker OZ is clutch and punter Davis Golick did a great job of setting up the defense. QB Grayson Saunier rushing impact was limited but his two short TD runs proved to be the difference.

Penn’s defensive line returned to its stringent self. It was encouraging to see Adian Sayin occasionally connect on vertical passes. However, this is their second league loss. So they can be considered eliminated from the title race.

Columbia’s World -class defense from a year ago made a return. WR Bryson Canty continues to be a downfield clutch receiver. Kicker Hugo Merry’s 3 FG’s proved to be the difference. Back up RB and Navy transfer Malcom Terry is turning into a rush/ receiver threat. If he and Joey Giorgi are on the field simultaneously , that may give the Lions an matchup advantage that will be hard to beat.

Harvard used their weaknesses as a strength. FG snaps and Xp’s have been a serious problem that may end up costing them a Conference Championship. They’re cleaver enough to use QB DePrima as the”swinging gate” snapper. Then he scored the 2 point shovel pass that decided the game. I want to thank John Harvard and Oscar Alcantara for explaining the legality of this play. That play reminded me of the “A-11” offense from the late 2000’s to early 2010’s. Each play the Receivers and linemen would intermittently change on the field. Few states banned it. Few California high schools and one in Oregon used it. There was supposedly a NCAA field goal loophole that made this offense legal. I’ve haven’t heard of the “All-11” offense in years.

Game of The Week is obviously, Lions and Big Green. This should be a game that will define the 2024 Ivy season.

Yale 28 Penn 24
Harvard 38 Princeton 20
Brown 31 Cornell 20
Dartmouth 28 Columbia 27

Ivy CSFL:
Penn (4-0) 35 Caldwell (2-2) 17
Cornell (2-3) next game November 1 vs Army.

.... opinions are split between Dartmouth squeaking by Columbia and Columbia easily handling Dartmouth.

As I did for the last four games, I'll happily accept a close Dartmouth win. But golly, it should would be nice to cruise to victory. Hopefully we play a complete game and make it happen.

With Yale finally getting its first League win tonight vs Quakers, things are starting to sort out. Form could hold tomorrow with a Harvard win over Princeton, but Cornell-Brown and Lions v Big Green appear to be tossups. Let’s see where things stand when the dust settles tomorrow afternoon!

The losing teams from tomorrow’s Princeton-Harvard and Cornell-Brown will give them two league loss. In theory that should eliminate them from championship contention.

Yale wins out; Columbia and H beat D; Columbia beats H—this gives you a three way tie among Columbia, D and Y, all at 5-2. Or H beats Y and then H joins in the three way tie.

I predict every team will have at least some say in eventual champion(s). Cliche but every team capable of beating any team this year

The Top 5 plays came on. The #1 play was the pass from Jordan to Pantelis on the acrobatic catch in the 1st quarter.
