The "Militia Clause" has caused all kinds of confusion in interpreting the 2nd Amendment, and has been twisted by anti-gun groups who say it means the National Guard.
Perhaps if we examine another sentence with identical structure, we can see a parallel to the real meaning of the language of the 2nd Amendment. Consider if the 1st Amendment had been worded thus:

"A well read electorate being necessary to the continuance of an informed election, the right of the people to keep and read books shall not be infringed."

Exact same grammar, just a substitution of different nouns for nouns, verbs for verbs and so on. Given the direct substitution the grammatical construction has not changed. Would this then mean that only government reading groups would be allowed to posess books?
