While I agree with the author's premise that Christians try to legislate their morality on both sides of the political spectrum, I think the chance of Christians becoming libertarans (and I don't believe libertarianism is much if any less divisive than Christianity) is slim. Doing so requires reason and rationality, both of which have to be disregarded to believe in any god. Once you accept a belief for which there are no referents in reality, anything else can be accepted on faith as well.

Although there are many fine Christian and other deist people in the world, most of them are politically, economically, and philosophically naive. They have been brainwashed since birth and their minds are closed to anything that doesn't preach to their choir. Being a Jesuit educated ex-Catholic I know whereof I speak.

I'm sure that if I suggested that all public university incoming freshman be required to read George Smith's book "Aethism, the Case Against God" (you may be familiar with the flap over UNC trying to require incoming freshman to read a book about the Koran) in a local op-ed column that I would probably receive various threats against my life and/or property - from some Christians. The same ones that blow up abortion clinics and kill people in the process or who claim that 6 cells in a petri dish are humans and must be preserved.
