Hi Nilanthi! Thanks for posting. I enjoyed reading your opinion, because I haven't seen every episode of the show. I haven't seen the black and white episodes since they aired on Nick at Nite in the 1980s, so I don't remember much about them. My cable carrier didn't carry TvLand when "My Three Sons" was on. :(

Now that you mention it, I do recall Steve giving the kids extra money. Robbie asked for money before Steve went to the bachelor party in episode#217 "Stag at Bay". But, Steve had previously refused to let Robbie off the hook for the $16 speeding ticket in episode#215 "The Wheels".

I also don't know much about the real life era that "My Three Sons" took place in so I've never thought about how unusual it would be for a young man to go to college without working regularly. I'm in college now and most of my friends have part-time jobs and/or on financial aid. Maybe Steve set up college funds for the boys when they were babies! :)

You brought up another great point - the role of education in the show! The writers seem to have had there eye on the future. Education was important then, but it's even more important now. When someone said something that was too wild Steve would have some kind of logical educational response. Like when Ernie thinks he's unlucky in episode#268 "Ernie, the Jinx."

I think "Chip Lost" or something similiar would have been a better title instead of "Barbara Lost" too.

Bye!
