Hi PurplePanda. You raise some good examples. I wouldn't totaly disagree with you because I remember episodes like where Mike and Robbie wanted extra money and worked to paint the Jensens' fence, but the whole neighborhood ended up helping. But overall, I always felt like they were kind of pampered in comparison to how I would imagine other kids of that era being. I just feel like I have watched many scenes where the kids held out their hands or hinted that they needed money right before Steve would go out of town, and he'd give it to them. What surprised me was how Steve focused on how college was a full-time experience and how Mike shouldn't have to work. For that era, I would think of college students taking it upon themselves to work to finance their education, unless they were wealthy. I felt like Bub was always the one talking about how the boys should work, whereas Steve was the one wanting to take an easier line with the kids.

One thing--I always thought the "Barbara Lost" title was bizarre. I mean, she's in a few scenes, but the episode has nothing to do with her!
