I asked Dawn the same question when I contacted her via email to do some recollections of her time on the show. She says that even at that young age, she was embarrassed to be wearing dresses that short. She had to, the Producers were trying to make her look younger than she really was. When she first debuted as "Dodie", the character was supposed to be five years old.
