Hey, if you climb El Capitan without any ropes, that's one hell of a deal! Especially if it's the nose....
I think sailing in particular attracts a certain segment of society. I haven't figured out how to describe or label this segment though. One thing I do know though is that for a sport that is so active, and mechanical, It attracts an impressive number of people who cant spin a wrench for nothing... Who are totally baffled by a simple mechanics. Perhaps there's a correlation. I agree that they also seem to be safety obsessed. Perhaps sailing attracts idiots? Hey wait a minute.....
Part of it is that I think there is always a new crop of people who haven't managed to see through the "mystique" of sailing yet. And the all too common "FUD" sales tactics work very well on these guys.
