Subject: Mooring in a complex waterway

My home mooring is on a tidal river that has ferry traffic and ground exposure at low tide. When I arrive back to the mooring I normally sail onto it with my number 1 jib taut and my main sail loose. With a multi-hull it is a lot trickier sailing onto a mooring because of the low draft. I check the movements of the ferries against the timetable as well as the tide table. The approach with a rising tide is from down river and to pickup the loop on the top of the buoy from either of the ama bows. Upon capture of the loop I then snap on a short mooring strop which is cleated on the main hull bow. Then I drop the jib and main sail. Coming off the mooring is just a matter of hoisting a working jib, release the mooring srop and drifting with the current. I have performed this method of mooring in just about all types of weather and at any hour in 24 with no real problems.
