Good tip, one I've used to and don't think is in the books, and it's worth a mention. As well, on a boat like Macha it was usedful at times to moor off the channels, especially when getting ready to set sail, as it keeps the boat on one tack firmly and prevents hunting around on the hook. I'm pretty convinced that all good sailing boats are a little restless at the hook.
