My experience with old sextants is that they are seldomd good deals...A new sextant like the Astra has many improvements and due to the fact that sextants have become to many a thing best lumped with the Dodo bird quite the bargain...

That said I have managed to get back and forth across the Atlantic a half dozen times using the cheap plastic Ebbco which is all you really need but for those who feel the need for better plastic the Davis sextants are very very good.

One advantage of the plastic sextants is that they are much easier to take a sight with as being light they are much easier to hold.
