I've done a bunch of celestial on passage. Based on using a variety of sextants I suggest staying away from the plastic ones there various errors change anytime the temp changes. I've found the plath, tamaia, and astra 3B all very usable. I prefer the astra because its lighter, and if your standing around trying to shoot a bunch of starts or waiting for LAN light weight matters.

I think Bowditch or Knights Seamanship has a good section on adjusting them. I can't remember which we used to adjust them at the beginning of each passage.
