My neighbor runs bio diesel in his car, he differentiates this from veggie oil though.

His version of the story (so use a grain of salt):

You can run straight filtered veggie oil in a stock diesel usually no problem (especially if cut with some diesel) But in the long run it will foul your pistons and cylinders with carbon and crap. The veggie oil has some triglycerides in it that are the culprit. So he mixes some lye and menthol (If I remember correctly) into the veggie oil, waits a day or so, and decants the clear fluid. And claims it is now "bio-diesel"

He's been doing it regularly for some time now... Since it's alot easier to clean up an furnace than an engine, I would think the triglycerides would be no problem....

In fact since it's so much easier to work on a furnace. Perhaps the best thing to do is try it, and find out!
