At least that would be useful! Hub generators are getting pretty slick. My brother has a monster hub generator on his front wheel that goes directly to a halogen bulb light. Very little resistance, lots of power. I think this is a little silly in a world of cheap LEDs where three double A's gets you many hours of light. But for sure, if I can power up my cabin batteries with my bike and get 20 minutes of exercise at the same time, I say go for it.

You know, and I've said this a lot, but I think in any world where you're trying to live ecologically or frugally then you just can't ignore bicycles as getting you a whole lot for very little input, both financially and physically. Especially for somebody getting started on this whole sailboat living thing, it's always a nice reminder that the price I paid for my boat is less than most of my software colleagues paid for their Subaru Outback...
