Yeah, I heard yesterday and the day before that Pakistan and Iceland are close to bankrupcy. Makes me nostalgic for the simpler days (two weeks ago) that the betting pool at work was on which investment bank was going to fail next. Once whole nation-states start going into financial crisis, I think things will get "gnar gnar" pretty quickly.

Honestly, I'm almost about done talking about the financial crisis. Just makes me feel worried and tired and powerless and afraid.

What makes me feel better is to ask, how are you all doing in your plans and preparations?

Everyone feel confident in their sailing skills? Boats ready to go? Any supplies or tools you need. Any help or advice or encouragement or reassurance you need from this group? Any friends or family woefully unprepared who could be nudged to make some preparations for tough times?

I think the time is right for Sarah & I to move onto the boat. Simplify and put our non-essential belongings in parental basements. Despite everything, I still feel a lot of denial about what's unfolding. So I just tell myself that even if things don't completely collapse, that the cruising/sailing life is just a better way to live anyways.

If things get really dodgy, maybe we all meet up in Hilo at some specified date in the future?

Now, in this calm before the storm, let's take a deep breath and steady ourselves. People are going to get panicky, and we have a choice to reflect and reverberate that panic, or to project steadiness and reassurance.

- Ari
