There is a LOT to be gained in the way of storage room! Seriously, my little 27ft Dutch sloop has a great deal of storage and that will expand after the haul-out when the last bit of 'scrap' from the old engine is removed. the prop shaft alone is a prime vector for sinking and once removed, my provision storage there gains almost another 40% of two high plastic storage cases.

For me - if the hole in the hull is not ESSENTIAL or at least extremely handy as in my galley sink drain, then plug the hole. As one old salt said - possibly on this forum: '

"Seems to me that most problem on a boat begin with a hole in the hull."
