I think that "confirming" or "reinforcing" are more accurate words. Santorum has ALWAYS been at the far-right edge; people had these concerns the first time he ran. Now the Rs are in charge, and Santorum is highly-enough placed that he can help drive the boat...right up on the rocks.

Look, I think that the people who want no opportunity for school prayer, "under God" out of the pledge, no nativity scenes on public land, etc., are every bit as looney as the creeps on the right. If Casey were one of those, I'd never vote for him.

But he's not. Casey's solid on the important issues, like life, and far more in-touch with the mainstream of thought on other areas, like tolerance. Santorum is far too dogmatic on social issues where he, as a "conservative," should know better than to go.
