We have been assured by Diane Eggeman and Don Coyner that regular quota hunts will be included in the Babcock Ranch hunting plans.

It was explained to me that the hog hunts were scheduled as SOH's because they were easy to set up and administer. These are the only hunts scheduled for this season that I know of.

If you take the time to go out on the net and look up the Babcock management plan, you'll find that the State wants Babcock to be a "working" ranch, meaning money making, self supportive. You also find articles where Nick Wiley is quoted. "The state also will allow wild hog hunting this fall on about 17,000 acres to generate perhaps $25,000 to $50,000 a year", said Nick Wiley, assistant executive director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. How hunting is going to earn Babcock Ranch LLC money without SOH's is baffling me...The only other way I can see it making money is if goes User Pay.

Neither has my vote! Reasoning? It's YOURS and MY property (Citizens of Florida)The State of Florida purchased it with our funds and funds from two County Governments (Charlotte and Lee). Part of this venture was partnering with a Developer (Kitson) who purchased it from the Babcock Family.
Part of the arrangement was he kept 17,000 acres to development 19,500 homes and business ventures and basically the Preserve would be the recreation site for this project. Each home built is supposed to pay $1 dollar per year for operation of Babcock Ranch LLC. which if all the homes are built equals about $234,000 per year. They forsee building a retail mall, grocery stores, a rodeo arena, riding stables and so forth to draw visitors to the preserve and further Kitsons money maker. I personally don't like Babcock Ranch having to maintain an affiliation to Kitson what so ever.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.. Read the Plan for yourself and come to your own conclusions... Management Plan
