Just found this post but not from me:

From ask FWC concerning smokeless powder.
Question
Is it legal to hunt during the pre-season or post-season primitive weapons season with a muzzleloader using smokeless powder as a propellant?

Answer
It is not legal to hunt during the muzzleloading gun season or special archery/muzzleloading season with a muzzleloader using smokeless powder as a propellant. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's definition of a muzzleloader is "a firearm using black powder or a non-nitro-cellulose substitute and fired by a wheel lock, flintlock or percussion cap ignition and which is not adaptable to the use of any self-contained cartridge ammunition.”

Since smokeless powder has a nitro-cellulose component, it is illegal to use as described. However, it would be legal to use in this same muzzleloader during the general gun season. You could use this firearm during the aforementioned muzzleloading seasons if it was loaded with black powder, or a black powder substitute such as Pyrodex, but not smokeless powder.

What benefit other then what Russ mentioned does it matter to the FWC as to the powder used? Wheel bows came about do to humane kills/ Harvests, i thought the Muzzleloader season was about the WEAPON itself, not the igniter nor the powder!

Mark
