I attend the Deer Management meeting and would like it if they would tell us everything they have in mind all at once. But thats not how it's happening. We were working on the basic plan for gathering data and making the Deer Management Units(DMU's). Then everything was put on the back burner with the FWC staff introducing to us their plan to add 18, 3pts or better on one side areas, then the next month 9 landowners asked for the same rules be applied to their land.. We stayed on that topic for 2 meetings. Now maybe we can get back to hearing what they really have in mind for deer management. Mind you we heard in the first two meetings about to many bucks being killed and the need to bring the caring capacity up in some areas (which areas were not disclosed). I personally agree with Travis, if we are going to raise the antler restriction to 3 pts or better on one side, then lets not change the harvest limit. To much at on time will only upset the current hunters we have. I also believe that what ever we as state land hunters have to do they should have to do on private lands. If they give us a limit of 3 bucks a year that's all the private hunters should be able to harvest. I also am glad to see people post their opinion here this is a good thing. But unless you plan to voice you opinions to the commission directly, I suggest you join a stakeholders group that is going to vote the consensus of their memebership. Please remember there are TWO VERY IMPORTANT WORKSHOPS GOING ON RIGHT NOW. They are also working to make changes to the quota system.
