Ah, so he wasn't the only one around to wake as the sun went to sleep, to begin his roaming games and wander his way through the evening hours. Though coming upon the sales grounds, far from his usual haunts, it seemed he was the only one capable of wandering anywhere.

A shadow of a frown darkening his features, he re-routed his path to approach with slow, unearthly silent steps, inquisitive emerald eyes focused on the mound of living creature in the dusty center of a pen. Huh. An unusual find! Who on earth would leave a horse in this condition?

Someone with a darker soul than even his own, that's who, and those were hard to come by. Even in this city, with all its shady characters and shadowy joints. Everyone here had secrets of a darker past, did they not? And while most were dense enough and the devil crafty enough to keep his own secrets hidden, animals could sense a predator far better than humans, could read a soul from a distance and flee if they were smart.

But then again, if the mare might know what he was, if she knew of the lives he stole to feed his own, then she just might recognize in the same instant that her silent stalker would not lift a finger nor bear a fang toward such a magnificent creature. For all his nightly predatory games with human prey, the intentions that brought him carefully along the fenceline to study the fallen mare were of a far more pristine nature and the silence he kept was more of reverence than murderous interest. Though were the men responsible for the equine's condition to show their face to the sale ground moonlight, there would be blood to follow.

Rounding the enclosure, he folded his arms atop the fence, resting his chin on his arms as he looked the mare over and finally addressing her with scarce more than a whisper of mellow velvet. "Hello there, lovely. Who has done this to you?"

((I live! Haha! I hope you did not think I had abandoned you!))
