Someone once figured a man was only good for one oath at a time. That statement demands expansion. To include Man's best friend and a single task at hand. For while the pup might someday take his faithful place at someone's heel, his sole interest now was tipping over the infernal cardboard box, tumble as he may into the outside world. A small sacrifice to escape the small, dark interior, open as it was to the sky but too tall for him even if he reared back to catch the smallest glimpse of where he might be. Strange scents hung in the air here, not of his mother, his siblings, his home. But then, his brothers and sisters had slowly disappeared one by one anyway and, though he would disagree, he was of an age to leave his mother to make his way in the larger world. But not alone! And alone he was, tapping uncertain paws at the walls of his musty prision. A most bizarre predicament, unlike anything he had encounter before in his short life and he sat with a whimpering sigh to puzzle this situation out. Out he wanted, out he would get. Somehow. Leave behind this box with his name scribbled on the exterior below an advertisement for 'Collie Pup: Free' and toddle off to find his mother's comfort. Or any comfort, for that matter, as the afternoon advanced.
