“That sounds like a good plan, Seymour,” Michael sat in the kitchen in front of a laptop with the cell phone against his ear. Walter groaned as he shook his head before pulling out a chair. He needed to talk to Michael.

“You need to worry about what needs to be done there. I have things under control here,” Michael responded while Birkoff fretted about not being in the area and that he should be there to help out. Michael knew that it was just because he was worried about Nikita and he hadn’t had much of a chance to sort things out between himself and Walter. All of those things mattered, but what he was doing mattered a lot more.

Michael was also very aware that Walter was put out that he hadn’t finished the phone call with Birkoff as soon as he arrived. It wasn’t because it was Birkoff. Walter sitting down and then getting up with a rolling of his eyes would have happened even if Michael was talking to the pizza delivery guy at the moment.

“I can come back whenever needed, Michael. I know that you wanted me to do this on the inside… but now that I’ve been in, I can probably remove the Directory without anyone knowing anything is missing,” Birkoff offered and Michael tilted his head forward slightly so he wasn’t paying attention to Walter’s antics.

Michael glanced at Walter and had to wonder if Birkoff was here if there would be more things to worry about. “I know how to get in touch with you, Seymour. You are doing the important work now. If I don’t contact you, touch base next week.”

Without waiting for a response, Michael turned his phone off and placed it down on the table.

“The Directory? Are we not as safe as I thought we were?” Walter inquired as he pulled the chair and flipped it around to stare at Michael, a new thing on his mind.

“It’s clean up,” Michael shook his head. “Those who have the Directory don’t know what they have… the one that Birkoff is working on now believes that the list is some sort of marketing list.”

“There are multiple places?”

“Madeline’s subterfuge that she thought would spare her life… there are two left.”

“Outside what Jason… I mean, Birkoff… has kept,” Walter commented and Michael leaned back in his chair. “We have a lot of things to deal with Walter. Birkoff being Birkoff is not one that needs to be handled now. He is working on things and will be back shortly.”

“He wasn’t a field operative.”

“He isn’t acting as an operative,” Michael snapped as he folded his arms across his chest. “You came in here to lecture me about something… or someone else.”

“My Sugar,” Walter nodded his head up and down. Michael wanted to point out that Nikita was her own woman, but knew that it would do no good at this point. “Kip is concerned that she isn’t sleeping enough. While she is getting better, I guess the physical therapy is going slower than Kip thinks it should.”

“If he was concerned, he should talk to me.”

“I’m surprised you haven’t scared him out of here like you did the other physical therapist. Sophia only lasted two days,” Walter snorted as he shook his head. “My Sugar… she is tired.”

“She is in bed most of the day,” Michael replied. “And when Kip started, he said that until Nikita was ready to come down the stairs herself, we should stay with the plans of staying upstairs. Did he change those plans without telling me since he doesn’t want to talk to me?”

Walter tilted his head as he was frustrated with Michael. “Look… she may be Nikita… but she didn’t give up some habits of being an operative when I thought she died… it sounds like she was your outside operative for most things… so maybe that skill of looking like you are asleep while not really asleep is what she is doing.”

Michael felt numb – because Nikita would do that.

“Why?”

“She doesn’t talk much to me, Michael…. While she was dead to me… she also didn’t see me for years. We have to rebuild things… and I’m not the same Walter… Just like I know that she isn’t the same Nikita, memory loss or no memory loss.”

Michael closed his eyes as Walter truly had a valid point to be so blunt with him.

“You are under some tremendous stress, Michael. I’m not here to beat you up… I’m here to help if you would just let me,” Walter softened as he stood up and turned the chair around so he could sit down and lean back. Michael blinked his green eyes as he looked at Walter and knew that he was just trying to help in his own way and that he had been a bit harsh of late.

“I never wanted to teach Nikita that,” Michael finally spoke as he rubbed his forehead.

“Really?”

Michael nodded his head. “Nikita from the beginning never slept much… when we were purposely depriving the trainees of sleep… it didn’t impact her because she didn’t sleep… I told Madeline and Operations that it was a bad idea…”

“Well, you look tired too,” Walter shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe you both need to sleep.”

“She is healing.”

“You know that I didn’t mean it in that manner at all!”

Michael winced. “I still mean that she is healing… I don’t think it would be wise…”

“I’m going to stop you there,” Walter raised a hand as he leaned forward. “I don’t think it would be wise if she doesn’t truly sleep. I think you are the only one who is either going to lull her into going to sleep or you will find out why she has decided not to sleep.”

Michael shifted and exhaled. The idea of sleep sounded nice but he wasn’t sure if he had the time to do that if Nikita wasn’t sleeping. He looked at Walter and wanted to get him onto other things. “You promise Kip that you would get me to do something.”

“Hell no,” Walter shook his head back and forth. “I told him that I’m scared of you too.”
