The door opened a crack and Michael immediately turned his head and glared at the person trying to enter. It was Walter and he stopped right there. He had checked before and he frowned. “Still asleep?”

“Yes,” Michael spoke as he knew that his voice wouldn’t wake up Nikita right now.

Walter leaned against the door. “You don’t have to stay with her.”

“I do,” Michael spoke and Walter shook his head. “You’ve been in there for almost a day and a half. You may be a super spy, but you have had to leave that bed.”

Michael had left the bed for very short periods of time. He had snuck off to the bathroom and once had slipped down to grab a couple power bars. Walter hadn’t noticed the evidence of the power bars as the wrappers were on the floor. Michael didn’t dare take more time. Nikita needed the sleep and each time he returned, she was crying in her sleep, something bothering her dreams until he pulled her close again to him.

“And should she really be sleeping this long?” Walter inquired as he rubbed his hands together. “You are sure… that this is sleeping, right?”

“She has had… some nightmares,” Michael choked out as he thought about those moments. He knew that Nikita wouldn’t be upset about him having heard her during them, but he did feel dirty on the type of voyeurism he felt that it was by listening.

He soothed her out of them with soft words and touches. Just holding her tighter helped also. Michael knew that she needed it, but it didn’t make it easier to do.

“She is sleeping, Walter.”

“Then why don’t you let me get Dr. Carle to come in and check up on her?” Walter asked.

“Because the doctor will wake her up.”

Walter rocked forward on the balls of his feet and then rolled back. “Michael…”

“She’ll be up soon enough,” Michael spoke with a voice that was not loud and not firm, but it was resolved. Walter knew that there was no point in trying to say anything more to the stubborn man. Michael had made up his mind and unless there was something dramatic, he wasn’t going to wake Nikita up.

Michael sighed and shifted while easing his eyes closed.

“Thanks for not calling in the doctor,” Nikita spoke just as Michael had thought about drifting to sleep for a bit. Michael shifted and looked at her opened eyes. “How long have you been awake?”

“Not long,” Nikita admitted as she shifted and groaned with stiff muscles. “I could hear Walter’s voice.”

Michael chuckled as he wouldn’t mention this fact to Walter any time soon. Nikita shifted again and Michael looked at her. “Need to visit the bathroom?”

Nikita was thankful that Michael knew as she nodded her head. Maybe if she wasn’t sore and just waking up, she would feel the need to independently get out of bed, but she allowed herself the luxury for now of Michael getting out of bed and helping her to her feet. He didn’t let her go as she stood and Nikita knew that he practically carried her to their bathroom, but she had moved as much as she could at the moment.

A while later, Michael settled back down on the bed beside Nikita, knowing that things were going to get better. “Do you want something to eat?”

Nikita twisted the blanket in her hands and cleared her throat gently. “It isn’t do I want… I know that you are going to make me eat.”

“I’m sure that Walter knows that you are awake,” Michael commented as he reached over and snagged a power bar. “This will stop me from going downstairs right away.”

“How many people are waiting for me to wake up?” Nikita inquired as she rolled the power bar in her fingers. Michael knew that she didn’t want to eat it. She also didn’t want an audience and Michael understood that. He watched as Nikita opened up the wrapper and choked down a couple bites before putting it over on her nightstand. “It is a few people.”

“Anyone I need to see?”

Michael thought about the question and then shook his head. He had taken the opportunity a few times to check email while Nikita slept. He knew that Marlow wanted to talk to him about a new physical therapist because Kip was only a short-term solution. She had indicated that she found someone that could work out long term. But that wasn’t something that Nikita needed to deal with right now. “No.”

Nikita eased her head down on Michael’s chest and sighed. “Then I’m not hungry enough to go down there yet.”

Michael smirked and sighed as he was happy to just see that she was awake. He stroked her arm and he even heard Nikita sigh. She pulled her hand to his chest and stopped. Her blue eyes stared at her hand and Michael didn’t prod at the moment.

He waited.

“I… I think it was the last time… before the… accident… before I saw Operations… and we were stuck in that cabin… somewhere well North… in Canada?” Nikita spoke and Michael nodded his head. “It was Winnipeg… and we were trying to go south.”

“All those flights we tried… and we got to Winnipeg,” Nikita chuckled gently as she nodded her head. “And you got us this cabin…”

“At least we got there before it really started to snow,” Michael commented as he stroked Nikita’s hair and kissed her forehead.

Nikita swallowed and looked at her hand and frowned. Michael was wearing clothes and she closed her eyes for moment. “We enjoyed ourselves.”

Michael shifted and swallowed. “Yes, we did.”

Nikita looked up at Michael and swallowed hard as there was a sparkle of tears in her eyes. “We talked… about when it was all over… when you got free from Section… because we knew that things were happening.. and that we wouldn’t see each other again… in person…”

Michael shook his head and Nikita glanced at him. Those eyes chided him. She needed to talk this out. “We… made a promise… that we would find weekends… long weekends… to just stay in bed… together… to walk around naked together… and not care about the time… or anything…”

Michael exhaled slowly. “Kita…”

“I’ve been in bed… long enough… but not for the right reason,” Nikita shook her head. “And I know that I’m not in the condition… for that promise… but I don’t want to be in bed alone anymore.”
Stunned, Michael was taken back as Nikita moved forward and pressed her lips gently against his. He wrapped his arms around her as she parted her lips, telling Michael that she was well enough for more than a chaste kiss. Michael deepened the kiss as he groaned into her mouth. The world just seemed so much better and he knew that he had to help make the changes to make Nikita’s recovery more than what it had been so far.

Slightly worried that he wouldn’t be able to stop himself, Michael pulled away from Nikita. He stroked her hair back with both of his hands as she had almost rolled all the way on top of him. Michael heard Nikita groan as she bowed her head down. “I wasn’t done.”

Michael waited and before he could say anything more, Nikita’s stomach growled loudly. Michael arched an eyebrow as Nikita blushed. “I guess… I can’t say that I’m just hungry for you.”

“I would wait months… or years… whatever you need, Kita… but I won’t wait in feeding you,” Michael declared as he lifted Nikita up and off of his body as he was starting to feel the physical impact of just kissing Nikita. He swept the blanket off of his legs and stood up. “I’m going to kick them all out… what do you want to eat?”

“French toast.”

The response was so instant that Michael could help but laugh. He tilted his head to the side and folded his hands at his waist. “You might not know… but it is actually dinner time.”

“French toast,” Nikita sweetly smiled and Michael nodded his head. “And bacon?”

Nikita nodded her head. “And you don’t have to kick anyone out.”

“I would.”

“I know,” Nikita nodded her head again as she blinked and stopped. “Wait… you mean… I’m going downstairs for dinner?”

“Yeah,” Michael declared firmly. “Because you are getting better… and stronger… and I want you to come downstairs.”
