“You know, Sabina tells everyone about your boyfriend,” Mick spoke as he sat at the kitchen table with a glass of ice tea in his hands. Reagan swallowed and looked to the side. “Well, she is too young to understand.”
“I think she gets exactly what we are,” Mick chuckled as he took Reagan’s hand and squeezed it. “You can’t wait until they get back. You need to blow this joint, huh?”
“It’s been a long two weeks,” Reagan nodded her head as she glanced at the clock, knowing that Michael and Nikita should have been back by now. Their plane landed safely and they had called to say that they were on their way back. Reagan surely hoped that they didn’t need to stop for one last time.
“Everyone gave you a chance to leave… and we have tickets for the movies in a couple hours,” Mick pointed out and Reagan nodded her head up and down. That was something that she was looking forward to – an adult movie. She had it with cartoons. “Maybe dinner too?”
“Don’t push it,” Reagan almost growled and Mick chuckled. “So, when are you going to talk to them about what the principal wanted to talk to you about?”
“They have enough other things to deal with once they come back… Sabina just wants them home, especially after that nightmare… and Adam, if it wasn’t for whatever Davenport is doing with him… would be a bear,” Reagan started and Mick nodded his head up and down. “And then the school wants you to teach…”
“And that can wait,” Reagan pointed out as there was suddenly noise.
“MOMMY! DADDY! MOMMY! MOMMY! DADDY!” Sabina shrilled as she ran down the stairs. She must have been upstairs staring out the window and not reading like she had told Reagan that she would be doing. Reagan had bought Sabina the book The Secret Garden yesterday and she had not started it yet.
Reagan could hear Sabina jumping up and down at the door and she knew that it would mean nothing to tell Sabina to let her parents walk into the house. Just a moment later, she was up in someone’s arms, Reagan was guessing that it was Nikita. “My gosh, Sabina… what did Reagan feed you? Bricks?”
Reagan laughed at the commented as she turned and saw Nikita handing Sabina off to Michael and walked down the hallway as Adam appeared out of nowhere. Sabina was so loud and asking all kinds of questions as Nikita walked into the kitchen and smiled at Reagan. “You have survived.”
“It wasn’t bad,” Reagan commented as she kicked Mick under the table as she could feel him rolling his eyes. “We’ll talk later.”
Nikita sighed in relief and she nodded her head. “Tomorrow… at the earliest… We just want to spend some time with them.”
“I was hoping to go out for a while,” Adam spoke up as he walked into the kitchen and stood near Nikita as Michael blew raspberries into Sabina’s stomach. She laughed brightly and Nikita cringed slightly. She didn’t look like she had a good flight home. “Michael…”
“Let me down, Daddy… Because Adam can’t leave,” Sabina declared and Michael settled his daughter down as Adam turned to look at his sister. ‘What? I’m just going to go over and talk with Davenport.”
“You are going over there to be Bruce Lee… and I’m not allowed to be Bruce Lee so you can’t be Bruce Lee,” Sabina placed her hands on her hips and the room grew silent as Adam’s eyes grew wide. “How did you know?”
“Oh please,” Sabina rolled her eyes as she turned to look at her father. “See, I found the cameras that Davenport has looking in at our house and I reversed the direction and found that there were cameras over at his place and there is one in the garage where you were doing a lot of Bruce Lee stuff… only Mommy and Daddy are supposed to teach us that stuff!”
Nikita looked at Michael and shook her head. They weren’t even home for five minutes yet.
“Sabina… I’m sure that there is a good reason for this… and you aren’t supposed to be doing those things,” Michael calmly spoke but he got a pout of Sabina’s face instead. “Why not? Its easy daddy.”
“Sabina,” Reagan cleared her throat. “Why don’t you tell your parents about the new book that you got?”
Sabina turned and looked at her mother. “Did you bring me something home?”
“You think we brought you something?” Nikita inquired and Sabina smiled brightly. “Of course. You are to bring things home when you are away from your children.”
“Well, maybe we did. What did you think we would bring you home?” Nikita asked as she hoped that this would change the conversation enough. She wasn’t sure why Adam was sparring with Davenport, but there had to be a good reason. But she just didn’t want to get into this right now. She wanted to spend some time with both of them and then ease back into being home.
“I know what you brought home,” Sabina smiled and Nikita looked at Michael, knowing that they didn’t charge what they had bought for Sabina. “You sound very positive, Sabina.”
“You brought me home a brother or a sister,” Sabina declared as she pressed her hand against Nikita’s stomach.
Nikita turned pale and Michael grabbed his daughter up in the air. “No…. absolutely not, Sabina.”
“Sometimes you might not know right away,” Sabina warned as she looked at her father’s green eyes. “You know, Mrs. Peters said that her honeymoon with the young guy gave her a gift that was going to last for at least 18 years… and that was Missy’s twin brothers…”
Nikita turned her head to the side and swallowed. She thought that Sabina had given up on this.
“Trust me, Sabina. That isn’t the gift we bought back for you,” Michael spoke firmly and Sabina groaned. “It wouldn’t just be a gift for me, silly Daddy.”
“No brother or sister at this time, Sabina,” Michael sternly spoke this time and Sabina groaned. “Jeesh-Dad… I was just thinking it would be nice… I’m sure that you bought me a necklace or something…”
“Earrings and a necklace… pearls…” Nikita spoke as she turned with the box in her hand, exhaling and leaning back against the countertop.
Reagan got it right now. Nikita didn’t have a bad flight home. She was fighting cramps. Nikita had said something about planning things perfectly and it must have been scheduled so that her cycle didn’t come during the honeymoon. Reagan stood up and retrieved the Motrin and a bottle of water. Nikita took it and whispered thanks and watched as Michael got out the compass for Adam.
Michael looked at his wife and knew that she was ok for now. He didn’t know what to do with Sabina’s desire for a brother or sister and how much it did pain Nikita. He knew that it had to be harder to deal with that question and the way that Sabina had touched her when she was just starting her monthly. The cramps had hit just as they had taken off from Florida and there was nothing that Michael could do to help Nikita. He knew that she wanted a long bath but for now, she was worrying more about the children.
“Look… I got movie tickets for myself and Reagan… but we can stay,” Mick offered and Reagan jerked her head. “Oh no… we aren’t staying.”
“We are staying,” Mick crossed his arms and Reagan narrowed her eyes. “If we go, I’ll admit it.”
“It?” Mick asked and Reagan nodded her head up and down. Enough was enough. She knew that it was well beyond time. “Say it, Reagan.”
“I need some time alone with my boyfriend,” Reagan looked right at Mick and that brought Sabina away from Michael and Nikita, laughing and clapping her hands.
Nikita smirked slightly. Maybe it wasn’t the most ideal way to return home, but at least they were home now.
