Ellie looked at Nikita as she stepped off of the elevator and promptly stopped walking. With a frown, Ellie turned towards Nikita as she clutched Michael’s hand. “I can’t do this, Michael.”

“Kita… this isn’t just for you. It’s for our baby,” Michael reminded Nikita as he had to do many times since Ellie went to their house to explain that Tom had found an OB/GYN for Nikita. Nikita hadn’t been warm to the idea of another doctor other than Ellie.

And then she heard that it was a man.

“How is Laura’s father?” Nikita asked as she looked at Ellie, but still not moving. Ellie sighed as she tilted her head to the side. “Nikita…”

Nikita frowned and shook her head from side to side. “How is Laura’s father?”

Ellie knew that she was pausing and Nikita was trying her best. “He is having surgery today… they found three blocked arteries that they are going to by-pass… he finally gained enough strength back so they could do the surgery.”

“And when can Tom and Laura move him here?” Nikita asked as Michael wrapped his arm around Nikita. “Kita… you aren’t getting an exam today… you are just going to meet Dr. Keane.”

“When?” Nikita inquired of Ellie as if she didn’t even hear Michael’s words. Ellie stepped closer to Nikita and shrugged her shoulders slightly. “I’m not sure if that is the plan, Nikita.”

“It is,” Nikita blinked and Ellie sighed. She reached out for Nikita’s ice cold hands and rubbed them into her hands. “Come on, Nikita. Dr. Keane is waiting.”

The direction started to get Nikita to move again. As they neared the door to Ellie’s office, where she had allowed without any hesitation for Dr. Keane McCoy start using as his office. He was known as being military and known for disappearing, on what people would only assume were missions.

And Tom gave Ellie all of that information.

Ellie swallowed as she couldn’t help but think about how Tom didn’t censor anything that he had sent about Dr. Keane McCoy, which revealed that Tom had a sister, Lainey.

“No,” Nikita stopped again and pushed back against Michael’s arm that was braced around her back. She squeezed her eyes shut and then took a deep breath. “I don’t need a doctor. I mean, I’m fine. I barely had any morning sickness today.”

Everyone was quiet and Nikita dropped her head. “I know… that this is… for the baby… but maybe another couple weeks. We know way ahead of time.”

“I wouldn’t just trust any doctor, Nikita,” Ellie explained as she stood in front of the door and faced Nikita. “I checked him out.”

“I did too,” Michael stated and Nikita looked at Michael. She shook her head slightly. “Files from Tom…”

“I had Jason dig,” Michael interrupted before Nikita could continue her protest. “He is perhaps the only doctor that will work… and I had Jason find him before Tom sent him to us.”

Nikita opened her mouth in protest and then looked at Ellie.

“I took it a step further than what Michael could have done in researching him,” Ellie sighed as she took Nikita’s hands again. “I had him examine me. I wanted to know that he was good in a situation… and I mimicked things… to see what he would do… and he is good, probably even better than any woman doctor I’ve met in a crisis Nikita.”

Nikita’s eyes opened her eyes. “You… allowed him…”

“Three times yesterday, Nikita,” Ellie declared as she nodded her head up and down. “I did a regular exam… I role played a PTSD flash… I put him thru the ringer, Nikita.”

Nikita rubbed her face and swallowed. “But he wasn’t Section.”

“That’s probably for the best,” Ellie pointed out and Nikita shivered. She shook her head to push the thoughts out of her head.

“We are only going to sit down with him, Nikita. Talk to him. So you can get a little bit more comfortable around Dr. Keane,” Michael spoke gently as Ellie opened the door. “I met with him yesterday also.”

“You threatened him,” Nikita spat and Michael shook his head slightly. “I didn’t need to. I guess Tom may have warned him… and it was his idea to start with this, Kita.”

Nikita stepped into the office and Ellie looked at Nikita. “We scheduled this late… so no one else is around.”

“What?” Nikita exclaimed. Michael looked at Nikita and took a deep breath. He took those deep breathes until Nikita finally mimicked him. She rolled her hands together and broke away from Michael to sit down in one of the waiting room chairs. She was losing some color and Ellie pulled at the waste can just as Nikita started to throw up.

Michael pulled Nikita’s hair back and rubbed her back as the door opened. Dr. Keane stood there and shook his head slightly before retreating to get a bottle of water. “I don’t know if this is morning sickness or nerves.”

Nikita jerked her head up at the gentle voice and saw the bottle of water first. Then she saw the man who was nothing like what she thought. Although she had read the files and knew that he wasn’t military any longer, she had kept thinking that he would have that strict haircut and he would look like he lifted heavy weights each day.

Or that he would be small and wimpy.

Nikita took the offered water and untwisted the lid off. She took a sip and Ellie cleared her throat. “It’s ok… use the can…”

Nikita spat out the water and was then offered a towel from Dr. Keane. She wiped her mouth and then took a small sip of water.

“I’m going to get some saltines…” Dr. Keane stated as he slipped back into the offices, leaving the trio in the waiting room. Nikita blinked her eyes. “Nothing… like…”

Nikita flinched and closed her eyes. Her hands grabbed at the arms of the chair. Michael sat down in the chair beside her. “Kita… Kita…”

“Like those…” Nikita spoke as the tears came to her face. She looked at Michael. “I was like Madeline…”

Nikita grasped as her head shook. “I can’t… I can’t…do this… not good…”

Michael glanced at Ellie. Nikita was talking about a PTSD flash and Ellie turned around to place the trash can far away. She crouched in front of Nikita and touched her knees. “Nikita… just take a deep breath…. You don’t need to give the memories the power…”

Nikita walked down the hallway in medical and entered her code into the back lab. She saw the three doctors there along with a woman who was in labor. “Hello doctors.”

“Operations,” The oldest one spoke as he turned and smiled. “You have come to see the fruition of our newest experiment.”

“I was reading about the previous attempts.”

“We’ve perfected the environment for the incubator,” the other doctor answered and Nikita walked to the bed to look at the woman. Nikita picked up the chart and then focused on the doctors. “Has it really been over a hundred attempts?”

“Things like this type of advancement take time, Operations.”

“Advancement?”

“Of course,” the third doctor chuckled. “We have separated the DNA factors that we believe will yield the best traits for the perfect operative.”

“And that is necessary?” Nikita inquired and the doctors laughed again.

Until Nikita shot the three of them in the head.

“I… I killed them… while I was pregnant… with Sabina… and there was this woman… they called her an incubator… she was in labor… and I shot them… the only ones who knew how to best care for her…” Nikita stammered out after several tense minutes.

“Come on, Kita… you are safe right now…” Michael spoke and Nikita tossed her head. “I shot them… dead… and left her… and I didn’t… ever find out… what happened… ever…”

“Nikita, the PTSD flashes… and the baby… you need to take a deep breath to control this…” Ellie spoke and there was a snort from behind her. “It’s better for her to have them… then try to stop them… We’ve been thru this.”

Ellie looked behind her and sat down. “Dr. Keane…”

“Nikita,” Dr. Keane spoke as he stood there and didn’t move forward. “I don’t care what you did. It sounds like you needed to do what you did. It was the right thing to do… for yourself and the child that you were protecting in you. So it’s ok.”

“I did it… because the experiment… was so wrong…” Nikita explained and Dr. Keane nodded his head up and down. “The depravity of it sickens me… and I’m proud of your actions.”

Michael nodded his head. He had to agree with the doctor. Maybe that wasn’t something that Nikita heard enough about what she had done while stuck as Operations inside of Section One. “Me too, Kita…”

It was several more minutes before her hands slackened their grip and Nikita lifted her head while sliding back in the chair. Michael and Ellie both moved to make sure that Nikita was ok, but Dr. Keane simply nodded his head. “Here… try some saltines now.”
