“I thought I was going to hate the fact that you have to stay down here,” Cinda spoke as she settled next to Adam as he was on the recliner part of the couch. She leaned into his shoulder and sighed. “This isn’t too bad. You have the big television.”
Adam cleared his throat softly. “No door.”
Cinda looked around and kissed Adam’s cheek gently. “They all went to bed.”
“My dad knows that your mother is to pick you up just before midnight…. He’ll be down,” Adam pointed out as he knew his father. That gave them about a half hour alone, not that Adam was complaining.
“I wish others would have left sooner,” Cinda admitted as she took her hand and threaded it into Adam’s. “And I wish they would let me transfer to your school. They only have to ask. Since I’m on the border, they wouldn’t say no.”
Adam thought about it and shook his head. “My injury shouldn’t be the reason why you come to my school. You have your own friends and you would start to hate the fact that you are away from them because of me.”
“But I like your friends,” Cinda pointed out with a chuckle. “I’m going shopping tomorrow with Lisa.”
“To return that dress,” Adam sadly spoke as he thought about the missed dance. Cinda shrugged her shoulders. “We had one… that’s all we needed this year.”
Adam swallowed hard as he pulled his hand away from Cinda. “You know… I’m not going to be fun for a while, Cinda. This isn’t like a broken leg or something like that.”
Cinda had heard this speech a couple times in the hospital. “Adam, you aren’t going to get rid of me because you can’t get your driver’s permit because of this leg… or because you are going to have to spend afternoons in physical therapy… we have more than that going on between us.”
Adam looked to the wall and leaned his head back. “I might not be happy that much. I have read enough to know that depression can be common during recovery.”
“If you don’t have family and friends supporting you,” Cinda shook her head slightly as she stroked her hands thru his hair. “I’m willing to do whatever you need Adam.”
Cinda sat up enough to lean over to capture Adam’s lips with hers. They were soft and tender as she rubbed her hands down his neck. Adam liked the feeling and parted his lips, becoming active in the kiss.
Her scent was perfect despite being around everyone else. It was tender and sweet. That was the only thing that Adam could think of describe it because it simply was Cinda. He reached his hand up and placed it into Cinda’s hair just as she started to pull away. That touch was enough to have Cinda ease against his chest and to continue the kiss.
The room didn’t matter anymore and Adam ran his hands down to Cinda’s arms. He missed her so much and he almost forgot everything until he shifted and felt his immobilized leg and the pain of moving. Adam mustered up the willpower to ease Cinda off of his lips.
Both of them panted as they looked at each other.
Adam knew then that it was good that he wasn’t in his room right then because he may have not gathered his mind in right then. He shifted on the couch as he felt his body responding quickly to the kiss.
Cinda pulled back and shifted and looked down, almost surprised to see that her shirt was still in place because it didn’t feel like it with how Adam made her feel. She licked her lips as she looked at Adam as he sat up a bit more on the couch. “Ah… that was… wow…”
“My dad is going to come down shortly,” Adam looked around and grabbed for the blanket that he really didn’t need because he was cold. He looked at Cinda and exhaled. “Cinda…”
“We needed to… stop,” Cinda mustered out as she knew that in her mind that they weren’t ready for anything more, but that wasn’t what her body was feeling right now.
They sat still for a couple moments and Adam cleared his throat. “So, you are going shopping with Lisa tomorrow.”
“In the morning,” Cinda nodded her head up and down. “I was thinking that I could come over afterwards… I don’t want to overstay my welcome.”
“I’d like you to come over,” Adam nodded his head, sure that there would be lots of people in the house. He was almost looking forward to having others around the house after that kiss. “I can make sure that we have a movie that if Sabina has to stay with us….”
“You know that Sabina will be in here. She was so excited that you were home,” Cinda stated as she thought about how Sabina had danced around until she just went to sleep. She was so wound up and all of Adam’s friends liked having her around.
Adam knew that it would be good to have Sabina around. It would help him stop from thinking about that kiss. With a gentle groan, Adam shifted again and glanced at the clock. It was as he saw that it was about time for Cinda to leave that the car horn sounded from outside.
It was an awkward kiss goodbye and Cinda left. Adam swallowed and closed his eyes.
“I locked Adam,” Michael spoke and Adam’s eyes snapped open. He suddenly knew when his father had come downstairs. “Ah... Dad…”
“Good night,” Michael spoke as he looked at his son and walked back up the stairs. Adam rubbed his head as he wasn’t sure if he liked how his father hadn’t said a word about what he had obviously seen.
