Nikita pushed the keyboard away with her vision turning almost red. She tried to calm down, but this was just simply too much. “Adam!”

The sharp tone didn’t garner a response but Nikita hadn’t expected that to happen. She didn’t care that it was summer vacation. It did not excuse his latest barrage of attacks to her systems. If she didn’t stop him now, it was just going to get worse.

“Adam, you are going to stop what you are doing,” Nikita’s voice grew louder as she walked out of the den and started up the stairs. Michael leaned forward from the living room where he had taken a moment to watch the noon news before going into the lab as he had agreed he would do before they went to vacation. He had not gone back full time since Mick’s accident and he knew that it was good.

Because Nikita and Adam were not handling things well about Mick’s accident.

Michael didn’t go after Nikita, but he did stand up and walk to the hallway, although he had seen this building for some time. Nikita had been complaining about what Adam was doing and yesterday had even willingly sent him over to spend time with Lisa so she could do whatever she wanted to do on her system without worrying about Adam being all through it. Michael was sure that Nikita wasn’t at her best and that she was not willing to admit that she was upset that Adam got through some of her fake systems and into her real system.

Michael had been dealing with that for a while.

“I don’t know what you are talking about, Nikita,” Adam’s voice came down the hallway clear and Michael shook his head. His son was just not making wise decisions right now.

“I have asked nicely. I have blocked you. I have protected you from when you have done stupid things… and I’m done with it, Adam. You are not going to get into my systems any longer unless I invite you in… which I won’t be doing, “ Nikita’s voice was still in the process of getting louder. That was when Michael started up the stairs.

This was not going well.

“You only found me by accident. You didn’t even know that I was there,” Adam bragged and Michael winced as he shook his head.

“You don’t know what I know,” Nikita hissed as she slapped her hand against the wall. “You aren’t to do this, Adam. If it was someone else, you could get into a lot of trouble that we won’t be able to protect you from.”

Then Adam laughed.

“Adam,” Michael spoke from behind Nikita. Adam rolled his eyes. “Dad.”

“Get back into your room… turn off your computer… You’ll be punished for this. Nikita asked you yesterday to cease,” Michael directed and he ignored the glare that Nikita was giving him right now. She crossed her arms and cleared her throat. “I was handling this, Michael.”

“We are all a little upset about what is going on with Mick…”

“Not an excuse,” Nikita snapped as she shook her head. “And Adam shouldn’t be hacking… at all.”

“To find out what is going on with Mick!” Adam shouted out and Michael narrowed his eyes. That was a partial truth from his son and everyone knew it. “Room.”

Adam turned and slammed the door. Nikita walked towards Michael and pushed his shoulder against him. Michael swung his head and diverted Nikita from walking downstairs and into their room. He closed the door and watched as Nikita paced. “Kita…”

“You want me to take a role in his life… you can’t just jump to his rescue when I need to deal with things,” Nikita pointed at the door and swung her head. “I should have finished this.”

“And you will figure out his punishment…”

“Because you told him that he is getting a punishment. Not because I told him that,” Nikita rolled her eyes as she shook her head. Michael stepped forward and leaned so he could stop Nikita right where she was. “I know that it has been hard not knowing what is going on with Mick…”

“This has nothing to do…”

“It has everything to do with Mick,” Michael sighed as he cupped her cheeks gently. “We should have stayed up in the cabin… we should have waited… instead we come home early and started to make plans that we can’t even help out with. We are all frustrated with the distance and the time that the doctors have made us all wait.”

“You are off base, Michael,” Nikita pulled away from him. She turned and looked at the mirror. He watched her eyes and saw the tiredness that was hovering right below them although Nikita would not admit that she hadn’t been sleeping well.

“I have the punishment,” Nikita snapped and started to move. She was at Adam’s bedroom before Michael caught on what was going on. She slapped her hand against the door. “Get your shoes on Adam… we are going to the store…”

“Cool,” Adam called out and Michael leaned against the wall to wait. “I need to get some blank CDs either way.”

“We are going to the hardware store… your punishment is going to be to build a wall,” Nikita pronounced as she reached her hand behind Adam and pulled the door closed once she saw that he had shoes on.

“A wall?”

“A brick wall… outside,” Nikita nodded her head as she started to move. “We leave now… and you are going to start it today.”

“We don’t need a wall,” Adam protested and Michael nodded his head. “Where do you think we need a wall, Nikita?”

“I don’t care where we put it… Adam is going to take his energy out on something useful. A wall. That’s his punishment,” Nikita outlined as she challenged Michael to stop her decision. Michael shrugged his shoulders at his son and forced out a smile. “You broke into her system. It’s Nikita’s punishment to give.”

“But I’m not a builder!” Adam shouted and Nikita turned and smiled. “You just doubled the size of it.”

“But we don’t know where it is going… how do we know how big it needs to be?”Adam continued to question, digging himself into a bigger hole. Michael stood there as he listened to the two continue to bicker out the door and knew that he wasn’t going to work today.

And prayed that there would be good news about Mick soon.
