“Mick is settled into the rehabilitation center. He isn’t happy, but he doesn’t have much choice,” Ellie explained as she walked out of Davenport’s apartment dwelling and into the kitchen to where Beatrice was standing at the sink. “Is Nikita sick?”

Ellie shook her head from side to side. “That’s no illness.”

Beatrice knew that and she looked up at Ellie. “Why is Michael going along with this?”

“Because she makes a really good argument,” Ellie pointed out with a soft voice. She hated to admit it, but when she took away the way that Nikita was right now and just looked at the facts, Nikita was right. Their best possibility of getting April quickly is by Michael coming forward the way that has been outlined.

But it didn’t mean that it was right.

“If they come to this house to inspect it… Nikita is too deep into PTSD flashes right now… they are coming fast and furious… and she has no control over them,” Beatrice warned and Ellie rubbed her elbows. “She could go back onto medication.”

“Well, she needs medicine so she can sleep and eat… but we know that the medicine was misused before,” Beatrice snapped as she shook her head from side to side. “I know that Nikita thinks this is best for April… but it isn’t best for their relationship.”

Ellie moved to the kitchen table and rubbed her forehead. “She’ll do what is needed for her daughter, Beatrice.”

“At what cost?” Beatrice questioned as she went to the sink and filled up the tea kettle. She stood by the stove as the water slowly boiled. The two women were silent with thoughts and Beatrice brought over the cups to the table to share with Ellie. “And what if April isn’t her daughter?”

“Don’t say that,” Ellie shook her head from side to side. “It has to be her.”

“Nothing is sure until the tests are back,” Beatrice warned and Ellie nodded her head. “I know that… but everyone needs that to be their daughter.”

“Why?”

“Because what Mick did to get that information to Nikita… because she feels it… Michael feels it… and they need a good break.”

“This is a good break?” Beatrice questioned with a shake of her head while sitting down. “It isn’t good for Nikita.”

“But imagine what happens to her if it isn’t her daughter.”
