“Hey, you dropped this,” a young man’s voice spoke as Reagan was about to leave the park. She turned to see a teenage boy holding out her wallet. She jerked and swallowed. That was inside of her bag and now this boy had it. “I saw it drop…”

Reagan took it from his hands and looked inside it while her heart beat quickly. She saw everything inside of it and blinked her eyes as she took in the teenager again and his well-groomed appearance. “I’m sorry… I swear that I had it in my bag.”

“It looks like a bag that a teacher would carry,” the boy spoke as he shifted and tilted his head. “Are you a teacher?”

Reagan swallowed. She couldn’t believe that she didn’t get the job as a teacher this year that she wanted. So she was looking at some nanny positions that she wasn’t looking forward to taking but it would be better than being a substitute teacher, the position that she had been offered. “Ah… some times.”

The boy nodded his head. “That’s what my father told me.”

“Your father? How does he know me? I didn’t teach here…” Reagan felt her pulse start to race. It was that feeling of fear that kept her moving every year to a new school. She had to tell them it was because she wanted to learn to teach in multiple areas, but that wasn’t it. She was scared to put roots down anywhere.

Because Section One was out there.

“He knows you,” the boy smiled with a shrug of his shoulders. He looked passed Reagan and waved. “Hi, Dad.”

Reagan whirled on her heels and her mind started to scream as her eyes processed the man who had only showed some slight age with the years since she had seen him.

Michael Samuelle.

“Hi, Adam,” Michael spoke gently as he nodded his head. “Why don’t you let me talk to Reagan for a while?”

“Of course,” Adam turned away and ran to the side of the trees. Reagan took a couple steps back. “No… this isn’t supposed to happen…”

“I thought you were going to tell me to go find Nikita immediately,” Michael tilted his head as he smiled at Reagan. He watched as she paled and reached out towards the bench that was to her side. “How? What… I only told Nikita… no…”

“You don’t have anything to worry about,” Michael spoke and Reagan sat down while she continued to move away from Michael. For every two steps she took backwards, Michael took one forward. “Reagan… you are safe now. There is no Section to worry about.”

“I… I never wanted to see… anyone… and I was cocky to think that I would send you to Nikita…” Reagan sniffled as she shook her head. “I… I must be imaging you.”

“And you imagined my son, Adam?” Michael inquired as he stopped and sat on the very edge of the bench. Reagan turned her head and didn’t see the boy anymore. “He looks like me. You probably realized that.”

Reagan took a couple deep breathes as she tried to figure out what was going on. “I don’t… know why you are talking to me… you should be far away from me.”

“Not when I need a teacher,” Michael casually replied as if he was talking to a friend.

“For Adam?” Reagan shook her head from side to side. “He must be in high school.”

“Starts this year,” Michael answered as he turned his head and lifted his hand to point to the swing set that Adam now was at with the girl in the swing. She was smiling so broadly and Reagan could figure that she was about seven years old. That meant that Michael must have found someone right after Nikita got him out of Section One.

“I never thought Michael Samuelle would do that to Nikita,” Reagan shook her head from side to side. “That can’t be your daughter.”

“It’s Michael Pomeroy now… and that is my daughter,” Michael replied and Reagan shook up while continuing to shake her head from side to side. “If you knew what I told Nikita when she got me out… then you should know that I wouldn’t be a teacher to her… and the woman you had after Nikita…”

“Who said there was another woman?” Michael posed the question and Reagan rolled her eyes. “Nikita was going to die with Section One. I don’t even know how she got the children out… and then she got me out. And for a couple years I saw some of those kids… helped the few teenagers on the outside for a couple months… because that was the legacy I was left to give… to honor her bravery… so this is, disgusting.”

Michael arched an eyebrow and tilted his head again as he saw the fire in Reagan and knew that this was a good match for his daughter. “Sabina is a lot like those kids. She is too smart. The school won’t let her go there unless a specialized teacher is provided… because she is so smart.”

“Damn you, Michael Samuelle,” Reagan started to move away but she found that Michael was right there to stop her. He looked back towards his daughter. “I ask you again, who said there was another woman?”

Reagan blinked as she saw a woman touching Adam’s shoulder and shook her head at the lanky figure from the behind. She owed Nikita so much and this was just wrong. “You didn’t even really wait, did you? Or is that why Nikita got you out?”

“And then Nikita got out,” Michael whispered as the woman turned and pulled the girl up from the swing. Reagan saw the face and knew that it was Nikita. She felt Michael let her go but she felt like she was walking in air. “What? How… I’m so confused… but the girl is about seven… so…she would have had to have her… I’ve been out… no… I’m so confused…”

“Nikita didn’t know that she was pregnant when I was released,” Michael rasped as he got closer to Reagan as a family passed them. He waited and then looked as Nikita swung Sabina in the air. “She hid the pregnancy and had to smuggle Sabina out… and before you ask… when I said that you don’t have to worry about Section. I meant it. They had told Nikita to close it. She got people like you out first.”

Reagan felt shaky as she moved back to the bench and sat down. “She got Sabina to you?”

“No,” Michael shook his head sadly. “We only just got her… but she is so smart…”

“It’s what Section was trying to do… make operatives from good operatives… it never worked,” Reagan hissed as she shook her head. “What does this have to do with me?”

“You can be Sabina’s teacher,” Michael announced as he nodded his head to Nikita. She got Sabina back on the swing and left Adam with his sister. “You are our only option, Reagan.”

“Me?”

“And Nikita likes you,” Michael spoke as he stood up and walked towards Nikita. He kissed her cheek and Nikita moved towards Reagan. “Hi Reagan.”

“You didn’t need me,” Reagan blinked back tears.

“I never thought I’d find him,” Nikita rasped as she tilted her head towards Reagan. “I was… lucky.”

“I’m on borrowed time,” Reagan declared. Nikita jerked her head. “You can’t think like that. What you need to think about is that you are almost getting the life back that you were meant to have.”

“And I’m meant to be the teacher to your daughter?”

“I hope so. I need it to be so.”
