Walter looked at the door and then at Michael. “You are too damn calm.”

Michael smirked gently before shaking his head. “This is a good thing.”

“You had me pick up Adam.”

Michael rolled his eyes. “It made it easier. It didn’t mean that I was afraid to leave Nikita alone. Things are a lot better.”

Walter grumbled while he shook his head back and forth. “But you are out here.”

“I’m not always going to fix Nikita,” Michael whispered as he leaned forward and looked at Walter. “And it’s good that Nikita can trust someone else… trust, Walter. You have to know how hard that would have been for Nikita if she wasn’t getting better.”

“But you won’t know what this is about.”

“Nikita will tell me when she is ready,” Michael turned his head and saw Beatrice standing there. Beatrice stepped out onto the porch and smiled. “She is ready to tell you a lot… it was all good, Michael.”

“Thanks,” Michael sprung to his feet and he stopped. He looked at Walter and cleared his throat. “Thanks for picking up Adam.”

“Whatever you need,“ Walter tossed his hand towards Michael as he avoided looking at Beatrice. But that didn’t deter Beatrice. “Mind if I sit down?”

“Are you going to tell me about my Sugar?” Walter challenged as he narrowed his eyes while watching Beatrice carefully. Beatrice smiled and Walter felt a slight pang, but knew that it wasn’t exactly Belinda’s smile.

“I don’t have permission from Nikita,” Beatrice quipped with a shrug of her shoulders. “But she did ask me to clear the air with you.”

Walter shook his head. “Nothing to clear there. You may be Belinda’s twin… but now that I’ve seen you… I can see the differences.”

Beatrice rubbed her hands together as she allowed a smile cross her face broadly. “That means that you must have really loved her.”

Walter nodded his head. “Yep… and we didn’t get enough time.”

Beatrice rubbed her forehead slightly as she exhaled. “I could also tell that by how much you love Nikita.”

“My Sugar is an amazing woman… who doesn’t deserve the bum deal that she has gotten…” Walter shook his head from side to side, his voice thickening with emotion. Beatrice leaned back in the chair as the smile faded. “I think a lot of people got bum deals when it came to Section.”

“It wasn’t just Section,” Walter pointed out with a shake of his head.

Beatrice felt the heavy vibe in the air and she didn’t want that to linger, because that wasn’t what Nikita was feeling inside. To have Walter go in there with gloom and doom could ruin what progress she had made. Nikita wasn’t about to tell Michael about her new thoughts on marriage. That would be Beatrice new challenge for the upcoming weeks and months… but hopefully not for the full year. But Nikita was going to tell him a whole bunch of other things, probably even more than what Beatrice had heard.

But Walter, although very special in Nikita’s life, he wasn’t destined to get that from her. Walter was going to have to learn to handle that difference in status. That would also be a challenge for another day. Right now, even though Walter said that he didn’t see Belinda, Beatrice knew that he needed to be around her a lot more before he didn’t have that slight physical pain of remembrance of his wife. “Can I give you a piece of advice?”

“I thought that’s your job.”

“You aren’t my patient and this is absolutely off the clock,” Beatrice quipped back, knowing that if Walter wanted to play that game that she was ready to dish it right back to him.

“Fine,” Walter sighed as he rolled his eyes. Beatrice waited as he wasn’t fully listening to her. Then he looked at her and she knew that she could continue. “There is a famous quote that I have thought about a lot when thinking about your relationship with Nikita. It goes ‘To me, my stepfather is so much more than just a parent; he made the choice to love me when he never had to.’ It was said by Julie Hébert and I’m sure that you understand it.”

“I didn’t just choose Nikita,” Walter rasped as he blinked back tears. “I saw her… and just knew… and I don’t try to be any kind of father to her.”

“Then that is an error,” Beatrice stood up and looked out over to the porch. “You should go home. I’m going to yoga class.”

“That’s it?” Walter questioned and Beatrice simply nodded her head and dashed down the stairs. She stopped and looked at Walter. “And in case you are wondering… I am not married, but I have been living with Mr. Bert Bickett for fifteen years. That isn’t going to change.”
