“Why can’t I go too?” Adam complained as he sat in the kitchen. Nikita stood against the doorframe as Michael shook his head at his son. “This isn’t a vacation, Adam.”
“You guys went to Florida without me…”
“Again,” Michael snapped as he moved closer to his son. “That wasn’t a vacation.”
“But you are always going away now,” Adam complained and Michael glanced at Davenport. “Come on, Adam… we get to have man time…”
“When Ellie isn’t around,” Adam huffed as he turned and raced upstairs. Nikita looked at Michael and folded her arms. “I told you that you didn’t have to go.”
Michael shook his head. Adam could get over this. He wasn’t sure if Nikita was entirely ready for this. He wasn’t sure what this was all going to inquire for her to handle. If she had to pull into the tricks of the Angel to get Lisa safe, Michael had to be there.
Before Michael could say anything further, the doorbell rang. Davenport shifted as he shook his head. “Don’t trust me with Adam? You had to go call Walter for reinforcements?”
“Ah, no,” Michael shook his head as he looked at Nikita. Nikita shook her head. “He was going to that motorcycle thing in Texas… needed time away after dealing with the Beatrice stuff.”
Michael dropped his head as he knew Walter could come back for any of them. But he didn’t think that Adam had called Walter. But then, Adam would have gotten in contact with Jason.
“Jason is supposed to be away with Daisy,” Nikita spoke as the doorbell rang again. She started down the hallway and glanced out the window. Michael watched her back turn tense as she unlocked the door and swung it open. “What are you doing here Tom?”
“I heard you and Michael are taking a trip,” Tom stepped into the house. He pushed the door closed and smiled. “I saw a layover and thought that maybe I could help you get to where you are going faster.”
“Maybe we need the layover,” Nikita stressed as Michael came up to her side. “Are you watching our identities for any particular reason?”
“I’m just trying to make up for the lost time I had last year,” Tom stated as he looked at Nikita. “I can get you to wherever you are going… no matter how many stops. Much faster than commercial… and it would still be legit travel. No military involved.”
Nikita took Michael’s hand and squeezed it. “So that we would owe you in the future? IN case you need services from us when something isn’t the way that you want it? So you would have the power to make me turn back into Operations when you need me?”
“How about because I owe you… for everything already rendered… and if anyone makes you take action on things… I think you’ll know about it before I know about it,” Tom offered as he shrugged his shoulders slightly.
Nikita turned away and walked down the hallway. Michael stood there, facing Tom. “We don’t need this.”
“I don’t know why you are going to where you are going,” Tom spoke as he exhaled heavily. “And I don’t want to know why. I trust that it is for good reasons and that it isn’t about anyone’s safety that I know about.”
“I’m trying to make up for the sins of Section, Tom,” Nikita shouted down the hallway as she shook her head. “Even as Operations… I still didn’t learn it all… the secrets that some people had there… what they may or may not have done to innocents…”
Tom nodded his head up and down. “I understand that it could be frustrating… and that you are trying to atone for the sins of people that you don’t have to atone for.”
Tom paused as he looked at Nikita. She swallowed hard and she held back tears. She was absolutely doing better than she was at the beginning of the New Year. “I just want to help you out.”
Michael glanced at Nikita and then to Tom. “I appreciate the offer…”
“Can we leave now?” Nikita inquired as she reached out to squeeze Michael’s elbow. “Are do we have to wait?”
“The plane is ready to go,” Tom answered and Nikita looked up at Michael. “We’d get to St. Louis faster…”
“Kita…”
Nikita glanced away from Michael as she knew that he wasn’t going to fight this decision. He was letting this to be her decision. “I won’t have to be the Angel, Michael… I know that’s what you are worried about.”
“I’m worried that I don’t know all the details of what is going on,” Michael admitted as he shook his head slightly. “But I know not to stop you either.”
“I’ve planned for this… in case it would happen… particularly,” Nikita started and then stopped as she glanced at Tom. She may take his offer, but she was going to let him learn more at this time. She rubbed her hands together and looked at Tom. “Can you do something else for us?”
“More?” Tom chuckled slightly as he raised an eyebrow. He then started to nod his head. “If I can.”
“Plan a family vacation for the end of June… that we can go and be safe. Michael, Adam and me,” Nikita announced and Michael pulled his head slightly away. He wasn’t expecting that. “What?”
“Adam has been right,” Nikita looked back at Michael. “We should have a vacation. Just the three of us.”
“A father and son… with the girlfriend,” Tom outlined as he nodded his head. “Anywhere particular?”
“Talk to Adam,” Nikita directed as she stepped away and grabbed her back. “Do we have to go thru security?”
“I thought you weren’t going to be the Angel?” Tom inquired and Nikita tilted her head to the side. “Security? Yes or no. It might impact how long we are on the ground in St. Louis.”
Tom smirked. “Security won’t be an issue.”
Nikita walked down the hallway and Michael folded his arms across his chest. “Why are you doing this?”
“I don’t think she needs to be away from this stable location for too long,” Tom commented as he rolled his shoulders back. “And you can’t talk much in business class.”
Michael stood there waiting and soon Nikita arrived back with another small bag. “Ok. Let’s go.”
Tom stepped back and opened up the door. Michael knew that Tom had anticipated Nikita on taking this offer. Michael felt slightly worried about it but he also liked the idea that they shouldn’t be losing time. Michael wanted to retrieve Lisa, somehow, and get back to the house as quickly as possible. He wrapped his arm around Nikita to lean down and whisper. “You sure about this?”
“I planned on it,” Nikita whispered with a slight shrug of her shoulders. “It should be easier to get Lisa back here without having to worry about airline tickets for three.”
