The door opened up as Michael closed the car door while holding the sleeping Nikita in his arms. He had even suggested to Dr. Hlad that he administer the medicine once he got home, but she wouldn’t listen to that suggestion at all. It made it difficult to get out of the car and he was grateful for the door being opened for him, but he had expected Adam, not Davenport.

“There better not be any bad news, Davenport,” Michael spoke as he walked up the porch stairs and into the house. Adam was just inside had he backed away. ”Dad…”

“She is ok, Adam. Nikita is just sleeping,” Michael spoke as he turned and started up the stairs. He didn’t know why Walter wasn’t here with Adam and why it was Davenport. He would get to that in a little bit.

“Why is it good that she is sleeping?” Adam questioned as he was following Michael. But Adam came in handy when he saw that his bedroom door was closed and he needed it open. Adam opened the door and Michael quickly at Nikita deposited on his bed. “She hasn’t slept for a while.”

“But she isn’t even stirring…” Adam stated and Michael nodded his head. “The doctor gave her something to sleep… for the next day… It’s what is the best right now.”

Adam frowned but he nodded his head up and down. “Walter said he would be back.”

Michael rubbed his hand through his hair. He swallowed and rubbed his sore neck. “Can you get me the monitors we used to use for each other?”

“The pseudo-baby monitors?” Adam questioned and Michael winced. “Adam…”

“I know,” Adam left the room without another word. Michael needed to monitor Nikita but he had to talk to Davenport and Adam before he could slip into bed with Nikita. He also had to talk to Walter who was to stay with Adam until he returned.

It wasn’t long when Adam returned and handed the devices to Michael. “You know, Jason has better equipment.”

“I only need this for tonight… and only while I’m not with her… I need my rest too, son,” Michael explained as he placed the monitor on the night stand and looked at Adam. “I’ll be downstairs shortly and we’ll talk…”

“Davenport said that he had to talk to you first,” Adam announced as he nodded and left the room, but he didn’t go downstairs. He went across the hallway to his own room. Michael sighed and closed the door so he could get Nikita into a pair of boxers and a t-shirt to sleep in. He tucked her into bed and made sure that the monitor was turned on before he eased out of the room.

Ellie said that Nikita wouldn’t need more medicine for at least eight hours, but Michael pointed out to Ellie that operatives were trained to fight most medicines.

Davenport was in the living room when Michael came downstairs with the other part of the monitor hooked into his jeans. “Walter said that he would be back later.”

“I thought he was overseeing the moving of the lab… and staying with Adam,” Michael spoke and Davenport shook his head. “He said he was getting some things and coming back.”

“Getting some things?” Michael questioned and Davenport sat down. “After the lab was empty… and I’ll give you the keys to the space that we got just about ten blocks away from here… he decided he was going to move in.”

Michael shook his head from side to side. “That isn’t his decision,” Michael declared. He wouldn’t put Nikita in that situation.

“He loves her, Michael. It wouldn’t hurt to have someone else around… either for Nikita or for Adam,” Davenport explained as he kind of agreed with Walter’s suggestion. Michael exhaled as he stood up. He was about to pull out his cell phone when the door opened and Walter walked in with bags in his hands.

“I decided to shop,” Walter explained as he walked into the living room and smiled at Davenport. “Did you hear my good news?”

“It isn’t going to happen,” Michael countered and Walter dropped his bags. “And why the hell not?”

“Kita told me…” Michael whispered as he tried to say it gently. He knew that Walter meant well and that it would make it easier in the house for someone else to be there, but it couldn’t be Walter. It wasn’t meant to be Walter. “Plus, you have children that need you where you are.”

“This is more important,” Walter declared and Michael sat down as he rubbed at his throbbing temples. “We just moved my entire lab because of what there was in there…. Nikita told me that she told you that when she looks at you sometimes that all she can think about is what she made you do for her… and that means that you would be reminding her of the baby all the time.”

Walter seemed like he lost his steam as he sat down. “Hell, I thought she got over that once she told me about that.”

“Does it look like she has gotten over anything yet?” Michael inquired as he looked at Walter. Walter frowned. “You need someone else in the house.”

“I can see the wisdom in that, Walter. But you would be hard on Nikita. You need to be around… but not all the time,” Michael directed as he sat up straight. “So, I don’t see how anyone can move in.”

“I can,” Davenport offered as he cleared his throat. Michael swung his head from side to side. “You have your own life… and I think we’ve hindered it enough….”

“I broke up with Erma,” Davenport winced as he closed his eyes and looked slowly at Michael. “It happened about two weeks ago.”

Michael tilted his head to the side and Davenport shrugged his shoulders. “Do you think that Nikita needed to hear that before you went to Florida? It isn’t that I haven’t tried to mend things… but it isn’t mending… and I’ve been asked to move.”

The pieces fell together and Michael pressed the tips of his fingers together tightly. “The keys that you gave me… to where the lab moved…”

“I rented a house nearby to move into,” Davenport tossed his hand up in the air before shrugging his shoulders again. “But it’s really small… it’s a flat… so the bedroom is really the only room that your lab stuff didn’t take up… I can’t really live there now.”

Michael shook his head. “No one is moving in until Nikita is awake,” Michael finally decided as he stood up and saw Adam standing there. “Adam…”

“We need the help,” Adam’s eyes were filled with almost despair. “Please don’t send Davenport away.”

“I’m not sending him away,” Michael corrected as he walked to his son and stood behind him. Then Michael squeezed Adam’s shoulders. “It just wouldn’t be fair to Nikita if I make a decision about the house without her knowing about it.”

“I’m the one that she has reminders of…” Walter rasped as he rubbed his fingers together as if they were in pain. Michael sighed and nodded his head up and down. “Yeah… but we don’t know if Nikita is reminded of something else when she sees Davenport.”

“I never had that kind of relationship with her,” Davenport pointed out and Michael exhaled as he closed his eyes. “Final time I’m going to say things. Nothing is going to happen until Nikita is awake.”

“I would vote for Jason,” Adam declared as he turned his head up to look up at Michael. Michael ruffled Adam’s hair and groaned. “Then you would only learn how to hack…. How is your Spanish coming along?”

“Dad…” Adam sang out as he shook his head. “I’ve been busy.”

“I can take your computer away again,” Michael warned as he pulled his hands off of Adam’s shoulders. Adam took Michael’s seat on the couch and pouted. Michael rubbed his tired face and knew that he had another decision to make. “I’m going to get some sleep with Nikita. I don’t care if you all have a sleep over tonight as long as Adam goes to school in the morning. But no one is to start decorating those rooms back there without final approval.”

Walter and Davenport nodded their heads with agreement that they wouldn’t start anything at this time. Michael moved to the stairs as he set his watch to wake him up in about six hours. That is when he was sure that Nikita would start stirring and she would need more medicine after she went to the bathroom, something to drink and eat. Michael was going to listen to Dr. Hlad’s directions for now.
