“Wake up, sleepyhead,” Michael gently spoke as he sat down on the bed next to Nikita. He had watched Nikita for the day and knew that Ellie was soon going to be in the house to check on Nikita. There had been a couple times that Nikita had gotten up and Michael had been right there, in the room when she had woken up.

Nikita shifted her head to the side and she opened her mouth before slowly licking her lips. She gazed towards Michael as he could see the haze of the medicine pulling away from her mind. Although she looked like she was still half asleep, he had to admit that the sleep had done Nikita well. Nikita then lifted her hand to her face and rub at her eyes.

“Michael,” Nikita rasped with a deep voice and Michael nodded his head. He wasn’t sure how this was going to go and he wasn’t sure how it was going to be with Nikita waking up closer to dinner than breakfast, but that was what the doctor had ordered. Nikita tilted her head to look at Michael. “I was up twice?”

“Yes,” Michael nodded his head up and down. “And Ellie will be here soon.”

Nikita quizzically looked at Michael in confusion. “Dr. Ellie Hlad.”

“Oh,” Nikita nodded her head slightly as she dropped her hand from her face. Her stomach growled and Nikita looked at Michael. “I ate once.”

“A half of a power bar… you fell back to sleep with it on your chest,” Michael nodded his head again as he told Nikita about the moment that almost had Michael laughing. He shifted and turned so he could study Nikita a bit more. “I have another power bar on the dresser if you are hungry.”

“Not for that,” Nikita declared as she shook her head. She positioned her hands and pushed her body more upright. “I feel like I slept for a week.”

“Just a day,” Michael promised as he watched Nikita’s eyes look around the room and her stomach indicated again with a rumble that her eyes had seen the tray. Michael got up and brought it over to the bed. “Did you think that the doctor’s orders for you to eat didn’t stand any longer?”

Nikita shook her head slightly while she reached for the orange juice first. She then looked at the plate and tilted her head to the side. “A BLT?”

“It’s after three in the afternoon, Nikita. Adam is due back from school soon,” Michael motioned to the clock so Nikita could see the time. She blinked and nodded her head. She picked up the sandwich and took a large bit as there was a knock at the door. Michael moved to the door, cracked it for a moment and then opened it.

“Good to see you up,” Ellie spoke as she placed her bag down on the night stand and then grinned even more. “Eating is a bonus. Usually that medicine would suppress appetite.”

“She had a half a power bar just after midnight,” Michael reported as he stood at the foot of the bed. Nikita swallowed her food and looked at Ellie. “I don’t want to have to sleep more.”

“I have a pill for you to take tonight, but that is just to get you back on track so your mornings don’t become three o’clock in the afternoon,” Ellie replied as she looked around and Nikita moved to pat the bed. “Michael doesn’t have any chairs in here.”

“I don’t plan on being here long,” Ellie replied back as she took Nikita’s hand and touched it. She felt for a pulse and felt it nice and strong. “You are looking better.”

Nikita turned her head to the side and swallowed hard. “I was making some stupid decisions.”

“You were doing your best,” Ellie looked at Michael and then back to Nikita. “He has a good sense of what you need.”

“He held me while we slept,” Nikita whispered and Michael parted his lips. He didn’t know that Nikita knew that. Nikita looked at him and nodded her head. “I could feel it… you wouldn’t let me go at times.”

Michael looked nervously over to Dr. Hlad. “I need her as much as she needs me.”

“I’m not getting into that conversation,” Ellie lifted her hands as she stood up. “I want to see you next Tuesday, Nikita.”

“That’s it?” Nikita questioned and Ellie nodded her head. “Michael knows what needs to be done. You should try to trust him.”

Nikita parted her lips to speak and Ellie was out of the room. Michael was stunned and he lifted a hand to Nikita. “I have to talk to her.”

Nikita jerked her head up and down. Her stomach growled and that took Nikita’s attention back to the sandwich that she had not finished yet.

“Wait!” Michael called out as he started down the stairs as Ellie got to the bottom. “That’s it?”

“I was leaving the one pill here with directions. I was going to give it to Davenport. He offered me some tea…” Ellie spoke as she pointed down the hallway. Michael got to the bottom of the stairs and looked back up the stairs. “But that’s it? Don’t you want to talk more to her?”

“She needs to talk to you first,” Ellie shrugged her shoulders. “Plus she just woke up. She won’t have anything to talk about for a while.”

“I’m going to mess this up,” Michael declared and Ellie shook her head. “You know you have to be forceful right now. You will be fine.”

Michael was stuck as Ellie walked down the hallway. He followed behind and watched as Davenport gave her the tea. “But I don’t know if I am making the right decisions…”

“Your friend Davenport told me how you wouldn’t let either himself or Walter move in last night because you hadn’t discussed it with Nikita. I think you know what the right decision is but the better decision is waiting to talk to Nikita about it first,” Ellie calmly outlined as she sat down. “Now, Nikita is going to want more than that BLT sandwich… and perhaps a warm bath.”

Michael shifted on his heels and Davenport extended a plate out. Michael looked at the spaghetti with ketchup on them. He didn’t understand why Nikita liked them, but she did. “This is going to ruin her dinner.”

“It would spoil your dinner… but you didn’t sleep for almost 23 hours in the past 24 hours,” Ellie contently smiled. “You should be up there and not down here.”
