Ellie walked into the den and saw that Nikita was pacing. Davenport shook his head from side to side. “She isn’t here…”

“Michael?” Ellie inquired and Davenport looked at Ellie before looking at Nikita. “I didn’t dare leave her alone… She was reliving part of the war…”

“War?”

“She was sent in as a hostage… got eaten by rats… manipulated to give up a location…” Davenport explained and Ellie nodded her head. “Can’t we just give her more medicine, Dr. Hlad?”

“She has been self medicating… and that’s a problem,” Ellie moved to step in front of Nikita’s path. “Hi, Nikita…”

Some clarity reached her eyes. “Adam?”

“He has the flu,” Ellie reported and Nikita nodded her head up and down. Ellie rubbed Nikita’s arms while trying to guide Nikita towards the recliner. “You are cold… you should sit down and get wrapped up…”

Nikita pulled away and started to move her arms. She was panting heavily and she leaned her head back. “So hard… to fight… to breathe…”

“Tell me what you are seeing,” Ellie directed Nikita. She needed to hear what was in Nikita’s mind right now.

“Water tank…” Nikita spun around and then she looked off towards the corner. “No… no…”

“Nikita, take a deep breathe… you aren’t in a water tank…” Ellie was able to finally get Nikita near the couch so that she sat down for a moment. Nikita dropped and looked at Ellie. “I should have died…”

“You got me out… I wouldn’t have wanted you to die…” Ellie stroked Nikita’s face as she tossed her head to the side to tell Davenport to call for Michael.

“No… when I pointed the gun at Michael… while I was just barely not a recruit… he said he didn’t have a single reason for me to kill him… and I stared at the gun later… and I didn’t have a single reason not to kill myself… except I was scared…” Nikita rasped as she dropped her head and sobbed. Ellie settled in next to Nikita and hugged her. “You are having some really vivid memories, Nikita… they are overwhelming you… and you haven’t been talking about them.”

Nikita pulled away and shook her head. “I’m evil…”

“No… No…”

But Nikita was up to her feet again. She stared at the corner again and jumped backwards. “No… not you...”

Davenport put the phone down and looked at Ellie. “Michael will be here in a few minutes… He almost came home about an hour ago.”

Ellie shuttered eyes for a moment, wishing Michael would have done that. Maybe Nikita wouldn’t have gotten to this point. She stood back up. But Nikita jumped back again. “No… not the belt…”

The diplomat in front of her was no longer the diplomat. He was the one boyfriend, Brick, who liked to hit her with the studded belt. He snapped it loudly in his hands. He just had to do that to make her afraid. Then Michael was there. Her eyes were trying to focus on something and it was a struggle.

But the diplomat was back and then he was replaced with Brick. The belt was so loud as he cracked it in his hands. It would soon be hitting her body. It was going to hurt.

“Nikita,” Ellie shouted for the fourth time as she stood right in front of Nikita. She wasn’t even talking now.

“We should just give her something to get her to calm down,” Davenport suggested. Ellie turned and shook her head. “That’s the problem… she hasn’t been dealing with any of it…”

“She isn’t going to deal with it while she is like this,” Davenport argued back. Ellie then saw Adam coming down the stairs. “Get back into bed, Adam.”

“She hasn’t been that bad… every once in a while… honestly…” Adam beseeched the adults as he sat down on the stairs. Ellie stepped forward and cleared her throat. “She is a master at deception, Adam. You probably wouldn’t have noticed it. Your father didn’t.”

“She begged him not too,” Adam swung his head from side to side. “Begged him to trust her… but he had to know.”

Nikita had barely been in time to jump down from above and to kill Darius while she made it to the floor below. She turned to Sarah and went to her. “Come on, Sarah. Let’s go.”

“No.”

“Sarah, please!”

“I’m staying,” Sarah’s voice declared firmly but with lots of sadness. “I can’t. I don’t want to live anymore.”

“Fine, then I’m not going either,” Nikita lifted her chin while she sat down. “You die; I die.”

She could hear Birkoff’s distress when he pointed out the ticking timer. “You’ve got twenty seconds to get out of there.”

“Don’t do this, Nikita. Please, go,” Sarah begged Nikita.

“I’m not going without you,” Nikita stubbornly declared as she was almost sure that Sarah was going to relent in her decision. “Eight seconds.”

As Sarah closed her eyes, ready for the fate that she was welcoming with wide open eyes, Nikita grabbed her hand. Sarah didn’t drag Nikita down. Instead, they started to run and barely out outside, absolutely not safely outside of the explosion zone.

“Nikita!” Davenport shouted out this time. Nikita looked at him and clutched her head. “I just want to never remember… never…”

“Try to remember something good… there were good times for you, Nikita,” Davenport tried as Nikita started to move in a small circle while holding her head.

“Could you give us a minute?” Nikita inquired as she entered into Michael’s MedLab room. She waited as the personnel left and then made sure to be jamming the surveillance. Michael turned towards her, looking at her with a look that she was sure she wasn’t supposed to ever see.

“How did we do?” Michael asked as he gazed up at Nikita with his vivid green eyes happy to see her.
“We did great. How are you feeling?” Nikita inquired as she was here for a reason.

“Okay, I guess.”

“Good,” Nikita replied as she knew that she was putting off her task at hand. “And they still don't know?”

“No. But they will if we don't, ah, do something soon,” Nikita answered as she was glad that there was still that perceptive part of Michael there. She lifted the syringe that Walter had given her and allowed Michael to see it. “Is it going to work?”

“I don't know,” Nikita responded as she finally got the syringe into Michael’s IV bag. She pocketed the syringe and looked at Michael again.

“Have I ever told you I love you?” Michael whispered as he looked at Nikita with an innocence that she knew she was going to hate see disappear. His question felt like it had dropped some acid on her heart to eat away at her. “Actually, no.”

“I do,” Michael clearly replied as he looked at Nikita and nothing in his eyes indicated that it was a lie.

“Adam… go upstairs,” Ellie saw that Adam was ready to throw up again. She couldn’t wait for Michael to get there. Maybe he would be able to get thru to Nikita.

There was a loud thud and a crash.

“SHIT!” Davenport shouted and Ellie turned to see Nikita had passed out and hit the floor hard.
