Rhoda watched as the two running figures disappeared in the distance. She smiled as she nodded her head with happiness. Maybe it was odd, but it was good to see Michael and Nikita out running. They both had seen her with Nat and Nikita even gave a small wave as they passed them.

“They look too perfect,” Nat spoke from beside her. Rhoda turned and looked at him. “What?”

“They run in unison too?” Nat questioned as he shook his head. “And how can someone who was injured as badly as Nikita was be already healed…. Something is wrong.”

“She was beaten up but they said that nothing was broken,” Rhoda leaned into Nat and shook her head. “I guess I was worried that Nikita didn’t want to really be with Michael. But you can tell… she is becoming more comfortable about it.”

“But you don’t know,” Nat retorted as he shook his head. “She hasn’t told you.”

“She will in time,” Rhoda whispered as she had complete faith in Nikita doing what was right. Nat frowned and turned his head away. Rhoda touched his elbow. “You are still confused by what happened.”

“I’m not confused. I’m… conflicted…” Nat admitted as he rubbed his arm and eased Rhoda’s hand off of his arm. “I can’t get into it, Rhoda… you don’t want to hear it.”

“But I do want to hear it,” Rhoda commented as she turned on the bench to look at Nat. Nat rolled his eyes. “You are on your lunch break. We are having Subway because I have a night shift. I’m not going to bother this time with work stuff.”

“But you asked about the shift I was having and you let me vent about the mother who wanted unnecessary medicine,” Rhoda pointed out quickly. She didn’t want Nat to think that he couldn’t talk to her about things. It was clear that whatever he was projecting towards Nikita was more than just being upset about how she got around his court order.

“Rhoda… it’s just something I noticed… and it could be just a coincidence… but since we practically know that Nikita was doing a lot of things to the criminals that were identified as being done by the angel…” Nat drifted off as he shook his head. “Never mind…”

“No, Nat. This is bothering you,” Rhoda declared as she waited for Nat to look at her. He did and he sighed. “I’m happy for Nikita.”

“I didn’t know that,” Rhoda admitted as she thought that Nat was upset at her for everything. Nat rubbed his forehead. “She is getting what she needs… We know her name…. and it is clear that she is happier…”

“But?” Rhoda prodded and Nat groaned. It was clear that he didn’t really want to say what he was thinking. But he was breaking thru that wall and Rhoda was happy to see that.

“It’s not a clear thought… but I think some of the bad seeds… that were being careful when there was an angel out there… now seem to realize that the angel is gone…” Nat outlined as he shifted and slumped against the back of the bench. “It’s one of the reasons why I have the night shift tonight… we know that some of the leaders of the gangs that are gone have now caused a rivalry between members for who is in charge… and it’s going to be rough while they figure out the new hierarchy.”

“But no one knows who the angel is… they don’t even know that the angel isn’t out there,” Rhoda protested and Nat sighed. “The media hasn’t covered it in a long time. It is known that something happened.”

Rhoda sighed and tilted her head. “I thought you once thought that the angel needed to leave the police doing the police work?”

“I know,” Nat winced as he shook his head. “But I can admit, she made it easier.”

“You can’t be thinking of asking Nikita to go back to that, or are you?” Rhoda questioned as she felt a slight queasiness enter her stomach. Nat swung his head from side to side. “I would never do that, Rhoda.”

“Good,” Rhoda declared firmly. “She isn’t the woman she should be. I don’t know what her real personality is like… but she was doing that for some other reason that I kind of hope never to know the details about.”

“Believe me… I don’t think we would ever learn the details,” Nat shivered as he thought about how quickly everything happened on Nikita’s behalf while she was in the hospital. It meant something big was in Nikita’s past and it was probably for the best that they never learn of it. “I’m just getting used to things again.”

“Of doing your job?” Rhoda chuckled slightly. Nat frowned and shrugged his shoulders. To hear Rhoda say it that way, it did sound bad. Rhoda looked at her watch and frowned. “I have to get back.”

“I’ll walk you.”

“Good,” Rhoda waited while Nat stood up and hooked his arm into her arm before they started back to the hospital.
