Nikita was now sitting on Michael’s lap as Adam pulled out the last box and headed towards Nikita. He paused and looked at the spot on the couch that was empty. “Can I sit down with you two?”

“Of course,” Nikita answered and she was relieved to see Adam sitting on the furniture. While it was nice that he retrieved all of the gifts from underneath the tree, Nikita liked him being close.

“I have to go check on dinner… I think the ham needs basted and the turkey can’t get too dry,” Walter declared as he pushed up from the recliner and exited the room. Walter knew that he wasn’t always going to be around and Nikita needed this family time to be just her and Michael with Adam.

Nikita took the gift and found the box quite heavy. She shifted on Michael’s lap, but Michael possessively kept his hands around Nikita. She looked at the name tag and shook her head. “Adam… you bought me way too much.”

Adam winked at his father. “I used my dad’s emergency charge card.”

Michael dropped one of his hands from Nikita and messed up Adam’s hair, but said nothing more. Adam knew that it wasn’t the right thing to do, but in ways, this was the perfect way to bring Nikita back to the house after a difficult trip away. It also was serving as a way to stop thinking about what was sitting in the lab at the house.

Nikita tore off the wrapping paper and saw the decorated box and snorted. Adam had done that to Nikita on almost every gift that was from him. Adam loved the way that Nikita snorted and Nikita pulled the box lid off, after snapping the eight pieces of tape off of the lid, since Adam over-taped everything. She then stopped as she looked inside.

“Oh, Adam…” Nikita rasped as she shook her head back and forth. “This is way too much.”

“My dad got you a camera…” Adam pointed out and he looked at Michael with a twinkle in his eyes. “But it was an old fashion camera… it uses film and it is even older than the film that is available on the market…”

“It was an antique, Adam,” Michael gently pointed out. Nikita nodded her head up and down as she turned to look at Michael. “I had first seen that camera during a stop on the way to Dingman’s Hallow in Tennessee. The Bullet Camera, which was the 1939 New York World's Fair Model, caught my eyes as being different and unique in a small antique shop we stopped at. I don’t know why I liked it so much.”

“Either way,” Adam commented as he brought Nikita’s focus back to the box, where she now was lifting the box out of the box he had placed things into. “I thought that maybe since my dad bought you an antique camera that you would like a real camera to use… of course it is digital.”

“It is a Nikon D7000 DX-Format Digital SLR Camera…” Nikita whispered gently as she looked at the box and swallowed. “I don’t know how to use a camera like this. On missions where I had to take pictures, somehow it was outfitted that someone back at Section was actually controlling the settings and such…”

“Well, the store I got it at wasn’t a chain store. There is a photography store in town and it was a package deal… with a warranty and two lenses and an extra assessory like an extended battery or flash… I didn’t know what to buy so they said that they would help you pick that stuff out…” Adam explained and Nikita swallowed. “I wouldn’t know what to buy.”

“It always comes with a four week class,” Adam grinned as he smiled at Nikita. “Which means you should be really good by the time the real Christmas comes.”

Nikita laughed. “That’s great!”

“There is more,” Adam nodded towards the box. Michael kissed Nikita’s neck as she leaned forward and then pulled out a camera bag, extra digital memory and then several large photo albums and scrapbooks. Adam started to look nervous. “Do you like?”

“Yeah,” Nikita blinked her eyes. “I don’t know if my photos will be ready for a photo album…”

“Well, there is a gift card so you can get them printed out at the photography store too… but I was hoping that you can help me… start a photo album. Except for a picture or two of my mom… I don’t have a photo album like other kids.”

Nikita nodded her head sadly. “I never had a photo album either, Adam.”

“Walter told me that,” Adam whispered as he looked up at Nikita. “Maybe you can start photo albums for both of us…”

“That’s a great idea,” Michael spoke in wonder of how his son got this good. He was so young still, but Adam was so perceive and accepting of the situation. Nikita slipped off of Michael’s lap, wedging herself between Adam and Michael. She placed the photo albums on Michael’s lap and wrapped her hands around Adam. “Of course… of course I’d love to work with you on that, Adam.”

After Nikita’s hug lingered for too long, Adam slipped away. He looked at Michael as Michael squeezed his son’s shoulder. Michael was so proud of Adam. Somehow Adam was just right on with what they needed. Adam lifted his chin before declaring, “This was the best Our Christmas ever!”

Michael chuckled and Nikita smiled. “Yes, it was Adam.”

Adam paused and looked directly at his father, a moment of epiphany occurring. “I never understood why you said that you liked Our Christmas. You were just giving me gifts. But now I know. It is like I’m getting a gift by making someone else happy… it feels so amazing!”

“You are growing up,” Michael nodded his head with some sadness with how quick Adam was maturing. But mostly, he was so proud that Michael simply had no other words.
