It's your kitchen and you should be the one in control, but remember, she was just being helpful. Lots of people, myself included, were raised to be helpful when invited for dinner. She may have overstepped, but I believe her intentions were good.

Just be glad your guests weren't from Holland!! Brother, the stories I can tell. They come over here, plop their butts in a chair and wait for you to take care of everything for them. They don't help clean up, they don't help with the dishes, and don't help cook -- they literally wait for you to bring the food to them. Count your blessings!
