A very happy Christmas to everyone - I know you guys in the States are back at work today - I hope you all had plenty of what you wanted yesterday and have sense to get a little exercise today!

We walked down to Weston Shore in the slanting wind & rain this morning to watch the new Cunard flagship come in to her homeport from the dockyard at Saint-Nazaire in France. The Queen Mary 2 is the largest liner in the world and she made an impressive site coming up the Solent through the mist & rain. She was escorted by scores of small boats as well the tugs and Port Authority cutter. Ahead of her a fire tug sent plumes of water high up into the air.

Many hundreds of people braved the wind and rain to see the ship arrive at it's homeport.

I have to say that I was somewhat annoyed at the Southern Daily Echo article that went on and on about how the QM2 would bring lots of money & work into the area. I know that the economy is important but is that the only measure that counts these days?

Mara made an interesting point, wondering why all these people would want to come out in the weather to welcome a new luxury liner into it's homeport. I'm as sure as hell that it was not the thought of all that filthy lucre!
